Was watching him closely when he came on. I know he didn't score but his movement was really excellent. Very positive and unlucky not to get a goal for me. Like a brand new player moving him to 9 and playing to his strengths.

Again not saying he will start a lot of games but very useful to have. Does seem like Hirst will go.

Poll: Who do we think McKenna (not you) will partner Greaves with ?

No, he's a second striker if we're talking about where he's had his most success. Weird narrative a few of you lot are trying to drum up.

No narrative. He is a 9.

30+. 1 good season in his whole career. Never played in the premier league. Dreadful all last season. He’s not going to help us much next year.

The narrative that McKenna was playing him out of position, it's simply not true based on his whole career, that or you don't understand what a 9 is.

Round pegs, in round holes ...and for so many players this will be a breath of fresh air this season.

A dig at KMc? How dare you!

RIP Sir Bobby

The argument over his best position proves he’s a limited player.

Good players shouldn’t become competition winners if you step them Ten yards out of their comfort zone.

Agree, does everything right ATM, and the disappointment on his face when it dosent go in says a lot, hirst was the opposite at the end of last season smirked like it didn't mean much to him,
But that could of just been the crowd on his back,
Be very surprised if akpom was offloaded,

Yes I'm sure Hirst was delighted not to score.

Football fans really do show how bad the average person is at analysing subtleties of body language and manner.

From his golden boot season. Very much a finisher, not a creator.

Nice vid and some very good pens, but why the tune? It doesn't remotely match the footage.

(Not assuming you're responsible ofc)

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Dinking the first one the way it came to him would have been incredibly difficult and at speed. Was a fantastic save. Second one I love his dio of the shoulder and was on his left foot. He looked really sharp and was unlucky.

It's easy to say poor finisher but I'm sorry you don't score 29 goals in a single season at champ level if you are a poor finisher. Chaplin had a very similar to Akpom last season with way more minutes and nobody here would call him a poor finisher. I do think he is a bit of a confidence player for sure. If he gets his mojo and gets service (he actually thrived on crossed for Boro and we couldn't have been less than side last season).

We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one NR.

For sure he had enough time to dink that first chance and the 2nd I don't think he was unlucky, it was almost impossible to score at the far post as the keeper was way too far over that side. There were 3 or 4 yards at the near post he could have almost side-footed it in.

Yes, he scored 29 goals in a season, but that was 2 or 3 seasons ago, I can only judge on what he's achieved for us, which is very little.

I agree he's a confidence player, but for me he doesn't get in the right positions enough. He's not as bad as Hirst at that, who's awful, especially when we have Davis or McAteer/Fatawu putting brilliant low balls across and there's no-one there for the tap in.

This pre-season, so far, I do prefer Akpom to Hirst but at best he should be our no.3 no.9 option. He's not good enough for the Prem, imho, Have to take the chances you get as they'll be few and far between in the Prem.
