Heard it on tv, the commentator was in bits.

Apparently a van thought the peloton had already passed

Horrific news. My partners daughter is a friend of his mother. The parents supported their childrens cycling from age 5 or 6. Travelling the length and breadth of the country. Such dedication.

Awful news.

He rode in the Tour of Britain last year, so if you saw them ride in Woodbridge, Southwold, Stowmarket or anywhere in between around Suffolk, then you saw him racing.

I'm sure you know that anyway, but it doesn't matter if the peloton had already passed. Behind the peleton and convoy it is still an active racing area. There are often a few off the back, making their own way to the finish or about to be swept up by the broom wagon. I am guessing that he had either done his duty and was making his own way to the finish or was racing hard to get back on. Either way, he would have been alone and vulnerable to any vehicle who thinks that the race has fully passed on. A few commercial vehicles have been involved in serious racing/training crashes. Massive shame. Just a young lad following in his brothers footsteps/ wheel tracks.
