The other Dutch lad better with his feet but not sure how good with crosses coming in and facing dead ball.

It's not having a go , and he may turn into a great keeper time will tell but its a position you can't make to many mistakes it also makes the back four/ five jittery.

| Kjell Scherpen on 22:02 - Aug 16 by Len_Brennan | He'll need far more than being a good shot-stopper though, when playing in the Premier League. I remember a certain Matteo Sereni being an outstanding shot-stopper when he was here; unfortunately he never properly learned how to tip them around the post or away to the side, resulting in quite a few goals conceded via tap in follow ups |
If a keeper isn't any good at shot stopping, they shouldn't be a keeper.

He’s quality mate, I’m a Town fan living in Belgium and I’ve been a season ticket holder with USG for years, he’s a beast in goal, he’s the best keeper the club ever had in the 10 years I had watching them, give him time.

But an upgrade in shot-stopping was key for us over the summer imo. Don't see us surviving with a save percentage of 50-60%, which is the norm for Champ quality shot-stoppers at this level.

| Kjell Scherpen on 08:13 - Aug 17 by Bellevue_Blue | What do you want hime to do with the first? His own defender kicks it past him from a yard away? For the second, he had to come out and close down the space/ the touch, it was just a brilliant ball/finish. He couldn't have waited for the striker to bring the ball down. The fault for the goal is entirely on Philogene/ Davis/ Greaves who collectively do not communicate and leave a huge amount of space to let a man run untouched in behind. Maybe Scherpen could have come out faster, thats possibly the only criticism. |
I did say "partially" at fault. The first, well I'd hope he'd be big enough covering that near post and manage to get something on it regardless of if it takes a nick off a defender. Never a great look when beaten at your near post. I hold the defence to blame as well. And yes, he could've come out faster on the second... or stayed and gave the attacker something to think about. Coming out into no-man's land and getting lobbed despite being 6 foot 9 doesn't help anyone. Again, partially. I hold the defence more responsible there. You said he wasn't close to being at fault for either. That's what I disagree with. I don't think he was completely blameless for either, let alone both.

No excuse for misspelling with Google. Punctuation is more difficult. But these things are only important to boring old pedants like me. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I take the point but I think there is a big difference between 'at fault' and 'could do better' which is the case for a large majority of goals.

New country, new team mates, new system, much higher level, give him a chance ffs. Look at Matusiwa, looked completely off the pace first games, can we at least try and reserve judgement for a bit? He'll be fine
