| What was your first away game? 22:54 - Aug 18 with 3213 views | wiltshireblue | A video just popped up on facebook of the Bristol Rovers game in August 1991 at Twerton Park, Bath. This was my first away game and 3-3, where we lost a 3-0 lead but what a great season it turned out to be. I was 9 years old and went with my mum, the first game she tried buying tickets for - and ended up buying them in the Rovers end!. Made for an uncomfortable first half Equally successfully is my first attempt at getting autographs after the game, so eager to get them I tried asking the first person out the door - who turned out to be the coach driver. I do remember Devon White passing me his pint to hold whilst he signed, and i'm sure a pretty young Marcus Stewart. What very different days I still have the programme somewhere with all the autographs from both teams, as well of course John Lyall [Post edited 18 Aug 23:04]

That was actually on boxing day wasn't it? Eric Gates with the 1st goal. The match punctured by the Norwich scum throwing coins at us (that was a thing they did for a bit back then). They got a late equaliser iirc.

| What was your first away game? on 12:03 - Aug 19 by gainsboroughblue | Probably said this before but I suspect yourself, Illy and I shared a lot of travelled miles together on those coaches back then. I went to all those games you reference there, including the Hull no go. Port Vale was a grind of a day. I had already nearly missed the coach depart due to a banging head from the night before (still 16 so a bit naughty). Heavy rain, 0-5, M6 roadworks on the way back. Vale Park did serve me the best burger I have ever had a football ground though. Five days later, it was a lot better at Elland Road as we dumped Leeds out of the Cup. |
Yep, almost certainly, and I’m sure if we ever met in real life, we’d recognise each other! Having been going to away games regularly ever since (although dialled it down when the kids were younger, they’re 21 and 16 now), there’s loads of people you see at away games that are familiar by recognition and while you don’t know them, you feel like you do.

Cracking game that. Have no idea why as I’d have had the loyalty requirement, but I sat in the home end that night. Couldn’t help but celebrate.

I always had to stand in the away end though. I'd have been around 10 I think. After a decade long break from live football, I went back to PR again under my own steam in 96 and got my ST in 97. My subsequent first away fixture was probably Forest in 98. [Post edited 19 Aug 22:12]

| What was your first away game? on 11:47 - Aug 20 with 155 views | Radlett_blue | I hitch hiked from Oxford to Leicester to see Town lose 1-0 in February 1977. We were tile chasers at the time so the game was disappointing. Distance was 85 miles so didn't appear too daunting but hard to find someone going where I wanted, but lucked out eventually with some Leicester fans who were also happy to meet me in the car park afterwards & drop me in Banbury. Getting back from there was a real experience, involving a serious wierdo & that was the only time I ever hitch-hiked. | |

That was my second away game, and I too went on the pitch. I was 13 at the time and went with school friends.
