Youngest gets hers this morning.

She’s more studious than she’d allow anyone to believe, and is pretty nervous, despite our assurances the rest of her life isn’t going to be defined by events of the next hour or so.

I guess it’s the biggest milestone she’s had so far in her life and while we’ve seen it all before, she hasn’t.

Good luck to any other blues or kids of blues also in the same position today!

As I have said to mine....these won't define you or your lives. Yes, take them seriously and do as well as you can (so that you feel you have given your best) but they won't make or break your lives!

Said the same to my son who gets his today, he’s predicted high grades so he’s saying if he doesn’t get those grades he’s a failure even if he passes the lot. He’s off in an hour with his mates to get them. Good luck to him and all those collecting results today

My youngest got his A-Levels last week, and unfortunately didn't go the way he hoped. He had dropped from a predicted A to a D in history, which is very much 'his' subject.

Of course I told him that there were always options, but at the time it was a real kick in the guts for him, and it was very much a tangible 'hurt'.

What has frustrated me greatly since then is that he contacted the school immediately to ask about re-sitting his History and the school let him know they would find out and get back to him. A week later and he had heard nothing, took me sending a proper sh1tty email and copying in the head teacher yesterday reminding them of the levels of anxiety produced by uncertainty and of their continued duty of care to get them to give him an answer.

However, hope yours went well and she is happy this morning.

Update…

All good, got what she needs for sixth form.

A few subjects higher and a few lower, but broadly lived up to her expectations.

Same here. Youngest for what he needed to do to get into sixth form and do the A levels he wanted. He had disruptive year with cricket commitments (he’s in the Yorkshire CCC Academy) and so missed quite a few lessons. But all good in the end.

Congratulations to her!

Its only with hindsight and age that it became apparent to me how little GCSE's mean in time, if you're planning further qualifications. A gateway to pass through, get what you need, but quickly surpassed by A levels for those who do them.

I went to Uni after 6th form and subsequently did professional qualifications so I can't remember the last time anyone showed any interest in even my A level results tbh, I'm not sure they're even still on my CV, certainly not GCSEs.

Good for her for getting what she needs to progress.

We’ve just been for breakfast, and she’s off with her friends for the rest of the day.

I in the meantime am on a train waiting to leave Ipswich to go to Beautiful Days in Devon. Back on Monday!
