I got us 18th as well. Watson summed up my thoughts completely tbh. I like our transfer business I think we have a solid squad. I still just think we are maybe 2/3 big signings away from being able to win enough points over a whole season.

They've lost their manager, I've got no idea who their new guy is, and over the last year / 18 months have been systematically gutted of players. Eze/Guehi /New Chelsea CB. Agree. We will probably make another two major signings by the look of things, and then we'll have a capable squad, much more fit for the battle than last time.
I personally think the predictions of a precise finishing position are a bit silly, unless you're an extreme case - like Wednesday last season, for example.
We're building a squad which is capable of staying up or going down. Beyond that, a lot depends on how things develop, and how luck goes for us and our close competitors over the course of the whole season.
I don't think you can do a huge amount more than say we'll probably be in the bottom eight or so with this squad we're still developing. |  |

Almost everybody who follows ITFC is suffering from what I heard on a podcast described as PTSD after the 2024-25 season. Morale is so shattered after that experience that the task of staying up is now seen as effectively impossible. There is a near-irrational feeling that whatever we do - even spending £150m+ in the transfer market - will not be enough.
This despite the fact that Leeds finished 14th and Sunderland 7th last season. Neither had any magic formula or unearthed miraculous players. They just found a system which functioned and carried it out well, same as any team does. As I pointed out on another thread, Sunderland even scored a very low number of goals.
It also ignores the fact that relatively basic improvements, tactically (tightening up the defence) and in the level of players (particularly in midfield), could have led to a different outcome last time. We were a lot of points from safety, but a number of games were close, often with us running out of steam and conceding. We have defended much better over the last year and we have brought in a lot of strength in midfield. Problems have been addressed.
It isn't going to be easy, especially with the opening run of fixtures. However, I expect us to be much more competitive, which will put us in the mix with teams as high as mid table. |  |

We need a fully experienced striker, if we can sign one this window there is no reason we can't make a really good go at and then build again in January.
