Lose there and end up in Conference League and scrape through on penalties. Along with VAR and commentators not actually being at games (get on the gantry you lazy bastards), this is perhaps the worst thing about modern football.

I’m not keen on the numbing down through competitions though. If it wasn’t for the obscene money involved in broadcast rights there’s be no incentive to do this.

Yep, at the rate it's going, in another 2/3 seasons all you'll need to do is avoid relegation from the PL and you'll have a reasonable chance of qualifying for Europe!

Conference League was (I thought) set up so that the lesser lights of European football had the chance to stay in a competition for longer - rather than simply being fed to the big boys in the qualifying rounds. Look at the 'minnows' who have won it Roma West Ham Olympiacos Chelsea Crystal Palace So we have 4 winners from the 'big 5' leagues and only the Greeks bucking the trend. I don't think any teams from the big 5 should be playing in this - which would allow it to be a competition for the lesser nations.

So we have just a Champions League for the big boys and stuff everyone else? Allow them to hoover up ALL of the money, rather than only most of it?

Don't get me wrong, if we ever get back into any of the European competitions, I would love it but they are massively devalued by what they have become.

Should leave the PL clubs out of the Carabao cup. All the others as usual compete. While it exists, the winners get an automatic entry into the next seasons Conference League.

Winning the europa League or conference league as a prem Side has been stripped of all Glory. They will walk it every season cos they have ten times the budgets. I really hope the bubble bursts. Or the big teams fcuk off to the super league.

It’s not quite a shoe in for PL sides but their success rate isn’t bad. 5 Europa League Pl winners in the last 17 years.

I wouldn't have expanded the Champions' League to create this situation. I liked how it was when I was young. The European Cup for the champions of each country, a Cup Winners' Cup for the cup winners, and UEFA Cup for the other best sides who are not champions or cup winners. Winning those cups meant something. What does winning the Conference League mean?
| Maybe it’s just me but this seems fundamentally wrong on 20:43 - Aug 27 with 693 views | skinnybob72 | It's been a difficult week for Hearts fans - they split their side laughing on Tuesday night and have probably laughed their cocks off this evening. | | | |

The more games Scottish teams can arSe up in European qualifiers the better. Their finest have managed to crash out of the CL qualifiers despite being 4 up with 58 mins of normal time remaining in their tie with Austrian powerhouse…..LASK Runners-up ship x6 at Benfica and eventually crawl through in this Conference League nonsense and celebrate as if they’ve won the thing… Tonight, I see the might of third placed Rangers tumbled out to the Czech world beaters from Jablonec… Just gotta love it, seems like only yesterday they were giving it gob in the run up to the World Cup.
| Sometimes I giggle about the frothing lunatic who’s put me on ignore and now has to constantly log out to see what I’ve said. Beneath that counterfeit persona lurks the same pitifully desperate egomaniac. | | Poll: | September 2025. Which one? |

Well… it has already happened! We qualified for the UEFA Cup in 2002 despite being relegated - via Fair Play rules.
