Lost in Champions League… get bumped down to Europa League…. Lose there and end up in Conference League and scrape through on penalties.

Not winning a game in regulation time is fine, because of pens obviously. I’m not keen on the numbing down through competitions though. If it wasn’t for the obscene money involved in broadcast rights there’s be no incentive to do this. |  |

Hearts would have entered the play-off round for Eurovision if they had lost last night.
Conference League was (I thought) set up so that the lesser lights of European football had the chance to stay in a competition for longer - rather than simply being fed to the big boys in the qualifying rounds.

Olympiacos
Chelsea
Crystal Palace
So we have 4 winners from the 'big 5' leagues and only the Greeks bucking the trend. I don't think any teams from the big 5 should be playing in this - which would allow it to be a competition for the lesser nations. |  | | |

Fundamentally calling it the Champions League and including teams that are not champions made it a mockery in the first place.

I wouldn't have expanded the Champions' League to create this situation. I liked how it was when I was young. The European Cup for the champions of each country, a Cup Winners' Cup for the cup winners, and UEFA Cup for the other best sides who are not champions or cup winners.
