Something that caught my attention last night, and was a reminder of last time we were in this league, is the extent to which the top teams employ low level cheating.
Some examples.
Standing over free kicks stopping us taking it quickly. The one time we did that Enciso got booked for it!
Picking the ball up and walking away when they give away a foul then passing it to one of their team mates, before rolling it to a position not where the kick is to be taken. Both this and the above allowing them to get back in shape.
The pre counter attack foul. Rather than let a counter develop, requiring a foul on halfway which probably gets a booking, foul as soon as possession gets turned over in our half. No booking, but the counter is stopped before it even happens.
We need to get smarter at this ourselves. [Post edited 5 Sep 16:19]

There was one when either davis or maeda shot near post and Van djik gave enmerson a little nudge to force him to be offside and not a passing option. |  |

On the flip side, just after the penalty shout for Liverpool, did you see how quickly Greaves tried to take the throw in? IIRC, didn't the Leif penalty shout Man City fall foul of the match continuing after the ball went out of play and VAR couldn't call it back?
Might have that wrong, but if not, well done Greavesy for trying to play the system cleverly. |  |

Dont forget the constant yaking at the referee at every decision going against them. Even one of their coaches got a yellow card. |  |

I've noticed a few of our players getting a late shove into the advertising hoardings a bit more often this season (happened again last night), and I can't recall any of the refs talking to the opposition players about it; that one really winds me up, as the players don't usually expect it and bound to be a risk of an injury if it continues. |  |

As soon as the ball went out for a corner for us in the first half MacAllister casually kicked one of the spare ones off the cone to stop us taking it quickly. |  | | |

Mac Allister was lucky to stay on in the first half. The ball went out for a Town corner, Mac Allister ran to the stand-by ball sitting on it's little stand and sent it towards the goal, denying Town the chance to take the corner quickly & at the same time giving Liverpool more time to organise their defence. This is the same as deliberately kicking the ball away at a free kick or throw in, both punishable by a yellow card. As Mac Allister had been booked already, the ref (or if reported by the linesman) he should have shown a second yellow & sent him off. |  |

On the other hand we did have players with the ability and nous to make sure Liverpool players picked up yellow cards for their fouling. One thing from the match two years ago was that their constant fouling saw no Liverpool players booked until injury time. |  |

To be fair, Enciso did deliberately move his foot towards the ball to prevent the kick from going anywhere, which I don't think any Liverpool players did. However, we never took the kick to test whether they would.
Any Mac Allister should have had a second booking for that kicking the off-pitch ball before our corner.
And Van Dyke should have been booked for pretending he had a head injury when he clearly didn't. |  | | |

I agree about the shirt pulling, Leif was pulling the players shirt for the offside pen, but none of the so called experts and VAR said anything about the Liverpool play pulling of Leif's shorts. |  | | |
