I think he's right to say some of the criticism feels a bit personal, or perhaps that he gets more of it than another manager in a similar position might - we're all guilty of it on here, certainly.
The harsh truth though, is that he isn't a good manager, and he is wedded to a style that doesn't really work. |  |

Yes. It can be easier to be aggressive (?) when we are just avatars or usernames. On another thread about a pub closing someone mentioned twtd get togethers in the past. I bet they’d be quite civil irrespective of the topic.

He really is the absolute pits of a football manager. Best thing he can do is resign now and leave it alone. Maybe come back as a pundit in a few seasons times after a very long break.

He reminds me of a French First World War general by the name of Robert Nivelle. He thought up a tactical theory which he was convinced would allow the German trench lines to be easily broken, a guaranteed method for obtaining victory.
After some local successes on the Verdun battlefield, he talked his way into high command at a time the French were desperate for some sort of success after that bloodbath. Nivelle was so confident in his method, he didn't even bother much to conceal the coming offensive.
Attacking on the Aisne (which has very tricky terrain), it was an utter disaster, with vast casualties for little gain (even by WWI standards), resulting in French troops mutinying rather than returning to the front under his command. He was sacked a few days later. |  |

Nobody deserves personal attacks and football fans can be the worst at taking someone apart.
But…and I am not excusing any personal comments…Martin needs to look at the clubs he’s choosing. Recently he’s taken on clubs with massive expectations and very vocal fan bases. Rangers and Leicester are always going to go after anyone that does not bring instant success because of their overinflated expectations.
He’s taking work in firework factories and complaining about getting burnt. |  |
