Brian Moore mentioned Jimmy Robertson playing for Spurs and Arsenal - how big a name was he at the time? Seems he was at Town for 2 years then spent a good 5 years at Stoke.
And as you mentioned Ypres 1917.... been longer since this match than the battle of Ypres was from the same game.

The West Ham shirt has no badge at all. Was that a trend at the time? By this I mean that earlier West Ham shirts did have a badge, I think. And then there are great photos of e.g. George Best in badgeless Man U shirts, both red and royal blue. As I say, was it just a 'fashion thing' for a while.

Ah yes, Laurie Sivell. I'm sure many of us who were around at the time remember Laurie finding an unusual ( and somewhat painful ) method of tooth removal during one match! He was as brave as you'll get, if he'd been a bit taller, he could have been a top keeper.

I'd have been there for this game. My Dad used to take us to all the matches at Upton Park - drive to Newbury Park and then get the tube. You forget just how awful the pitches were. Upton Park was notorious, as was Loftus Road. How the game has changed. That was a game for the working classes - men and boys. The turnstiles displayed a price for boys. No mention of girls!

I have a memory of many years ago seeing somewhere on here say that at first people were VERY critical of Paul Cooper because he basically wasn't Laurie Sivell.

Scherps would have got to the cross fof their second goal. He wouldn't have had to jump.
Tolerance? What do you expect, though? Every game now is televised, and every incident is replayed and discussed on social media for the next week. And the money is astronomical compared to yesteryear and we can buy multi-million players from all over the world instead of getting a 5ft 8 local lad from Beccles to be our keeper.

Good to know he's still around locally, by the sounds of it.
Still in great spirits, was on Life’s A Pitch last season, obviously a popular team mate, Lowestoft stories with Butcher, Escape To Victory stories with Osman! Still had his kit from the film. It was the Andy Gray collision that cost him the teeth. Said he came home on the coach with everyone else, but was given extra whiskey to numb the pain! Great servant to Town, if 75’ had gone to plan he’d have medals to show for his time.

Met his grandson on holiday a few months ago. We drunk FaceTimed him. He was friendly and a laugh 🙂
