Both looked savable but Jesus that second, not good.

| Walton not good enough on 19:56 - Oct 19 by The_Flashing_Smile | You're bemoaning not getting a better keeper in, so how can I view it as anything other than a slight on the transfer window? I've said it's fine to question the position. I wasn't offended by anything. And I haven't said you can only do positive posts. There's so many straw men in this post it's a fire hazard. |
Again, it's very specific to one position not the entire window, we signed 14 players. Fine if you want to disagree with the context of the post and our ongoing goalkeeping situation, but don't make other things up. Anyway, enough of circles, I am sure everyone else is bored of it. Let's hope over the next 15 games or so I am proved wrong he looks like he very much belongs at the level, then we will all be happy.

| Walton not good enough on 21:56 - Oct 19 with 395 views | Dubtractor | Just on this thread - I'd rather Walton in goal than Rushworth, based on tonight, as Spurs goals 2 and 3 you'd really want a top level keeper to do a lot better with. | |

What have I made up? Keepers arrive in transfer windows just like everyone else. If you think we could've done better with the keeping position, then you think we could've done better with the transfer window.

| Walton not good enough on 09:40 - Oct 19 by tractorboy1978 | Not about being perfect though, just better. He's the worst starting goalkeeper in the PL. That doesn't make him a poor keeper but he's an average Championship one. The fact he's back in the team is a testament to O'Neil not being convinced by Scherpen and it looking like we got our recruitment (or decision to send KVO out on loan) in this position wrong in the summer again. |
Certainly agree with your comment that it looks like sending our Van out on loan was a bad move, but hindsight’s a wonderful thing etc. Maybe if the option for him to return in Jan is there? we’ll take it.

There's an expression that says that fans consider the best player a team has is the one who's currently not playing in the team ;-) Don't get me wrong, I was very impressed with Van Oevelen's ball playing skills, but he's still very inexperienced. Yes, he's hopefully going to become our No.1 as an established PL side, but this season could well have been too soon for him, and we'd have risked ruining his career. Over the summer I was quite vocal that I didn't feel Walton was the answer for our return to the PL, primarily because of his weakness with his feet. He's a solid 'keeper, but not a complete PL level player. However, he's done OK for us so far this season, and I'm behind him whilst he has the shirt. There is also a lot of rhetoric about how both Walton and Scherpen must be the worst 'keepers in the PL right now. The Opta stats do not agree. https://theanalyst.com/competi Overall Walton is 15/22 and Scherpen 17/22. On individual stats there is some good, and some bad, for both. For shots saved, both are well ahead of Rushworth, Petrovic and Roefs. Would I like to see better? Yes. Are either (statistically) the worst in the PL this season, so far? No.
