Barningham village 17:00 - Jul 29 with 3140 viewsKungfuBlue

Hi guys,

We are looking to relocate nearer to Bury St Edmunds (Currently West of Cambridge) and have identified a few houses that seem interesting. One of these is in Barningham. I cant find much about the village other than a few web pages and wondered as a lot of you are good Suffolk folk if there was any feedback I could get. To give a bit more we are a family of 5, with 2 young kids (6&8) and have a dog so details on schools, things to do for the kids, walks for the dog etc would be ideal.

Cheers

Do they have a nice village green? If so, does it have travelers on it?

Fisons where the sponsors when I first started to follow town. I got a load af crap from my school. mates saying we were sponsored by a manure company. Liverpool where the big club at my school in those days. 99% of them never even been to a game and probably still haven’t.

It might be a little further out than you anticipate.

Seems a pleasant enough area but if Bury is going to be your place of work/schools at some point/ socialising etc, like I say...

The road approaching Bury can be busy as feck in the mornings with a bit of a tail back at times. Just mentioning it as it may be worth noting.

I know a lass who lives there and will ask her if I can get hold of her next day or 2.

I lived in nearby Sapiston for about a year, and can't say there was anything memorable about Barningham. It's a bit isolated and there's not a great deal around from memory. You'll be going to Bury for most things, or possibly Thetford if you're desperate.

You,d be better to look around the Elmswell area to be honest. As others have said, Barningham is in "nowhere land" really. Also the road to Bury is a right snarl up at times, with the A143 through Gt Barton at a standstill in the evening rush hour. Whether property prices reflect Barninghams remoteness compared to others, that i don,t know. Best of luck in your search.

Thetford forest is close by which is amazing for walks. You have the peddars way too which starts at Knettishal heath. However, Barningham is not something I can comment on specifically other than to echo what others have said. I think it's a quiet and fairly unspectacular village that is a maybe a bit remote.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I grew up nearby and had friends there. It’s quiet. And one thing worth considering, the catchment for schooling post middle school is huge, Barningham is a trek to school, and taking your kids to friends etc could easily be over an hour round trip if they live the other side of the catchment.

Cheers, yep it was all about the property price. Ideally we want to be closer to Bury but can’t afford what we like there hence going a little further out

I grew up in Cambridgeshire so the locals didn’t have a top team in the town to follow.
