This surprised me from Sounness on 16:45 - Dec 19 with 1804 views | GeoffSentence | That last point he made was something I had never even considered, that a player coming out could have an impact on his value to the club and so the MD and owner of the club would want to be involved if a player was considering coming out. That never crossed my mind as a potential issue.

If you consider the global nature and markets (shudder) the higher up you go it's certainly an angle and pressure that many would be concerned about. After all there is a lot of excellent content about Qatar coming out this week as the final will be played 3 years yesterday. Questions about Islamic intolerance in that region and the same from other religions in other markets are being raised. I can already see the cultural clash in that tournament causing issues or mass boycotts. A player out and proud would be a headache FIFA and sponsors simply don't want either.

Rapinoe will hopefully be a small start to that. Of course she won't be involved in 'major' competitions in the same way that the men are, but she's certainly outspoken, and good for her. Good to see Sounness behind the cause and accepting of his previous mistakes, tho.

This surprised me from Sounness on 19:06 - Dec 19 with 1597 views | vapour_trail | I loved him as a player even though he was a direct rival. Whilst the game has to move on and players are better protected and all that, it’s a shame you can’t see that visceral sort of player these days. I love him as a pundit. He talks sense some of the time which is better than most, and regards some of his colleagues (henry, redknapp, neville) as if he’s ready to kill them. I have manlove for souness. And now I’d feel comfort telling him too.

A better player, and a more intelligent individual.

Judging by the stories I've heard about GS I'm not sure about the last point. He might well have been one of the greatest of his generation too though.

Agree with that, I liked Souness as a player and like him as a pundit too. That Liverpool team was really special. Souness was on Spurs books as a teenager, he also stirred things up a bit in Glasgow when we went to Rangers as player/manager.

Galatasaray was where he stirred things up. Made the old firm look like playground antics. Managed as well in Portugal and serie a I think. Trophies at both clubs he managed here. Under-rated as a manager

Yes I know he planted his teams flag in the centre circle before a local derby in Turkey but I meant that in Glasgow he stirred things at Rangers with his signings including our very own Terry Butcher.

I'm sure footballers and others will feel more encouraged to 'come out' knowing their Prime Minister regards them as 'tank top bumboys'.

Yes with Johnston being a catholic and apparently having said he was going back to Celtic.
