Being a football person doesn't come as standard 10:45 - May 15 with 1067 views | Bluefish | for people in football and those that follow it. It is clear how difficult it is for most of you lot but it is also clear hard hard it is for many pros. Jim gets it, he is a football man and should still be out manager. I would love a Jim and Kieron double act. We need real football men back at the club, men like Mick was for us

Being a football person doesn't come as standard on 10:48 - May 15 with 885 views | Libero | I think Paul Lambert is a dogsh1t manager but you really cannot question his credentials as a "football man" What we REALLY need is the Ipswich DNA of the 70's, 80's, 90's to run through this club, it would be great to have an "Ipswich man" again.

Lambert is a 'football man' in the 'somehow gets work despite being rubbish' sense though rather than the 'actually knows what he's doing' sense though. That said, the term 'football man' is one of those bullsh1t terms used by the football illiterate, a bit like 'Cole Skuse added nothing to our team'.

I think that's an unfair characterisation. Yes, Lambert's been dogsh1t here and he's consistently struggled to recreate what he had at Norwich but there's no doubt when you listen to his ex-players speak that he was very highly regarded at Norwich and considered a great man manager. There aren't many modern managers who are great tacticians and great man managers, the current trend is that you fall into the category of one or the other. It appears to have all fell apart at Villa, the Culverhouse issue is pulled out time and time again but I remember listening to a podcast with an ex-Villa player who said that a few of the lads who had been managed by Martin O'Neil and Paul Lambert started to lose respect for him when it appeared he was just doing his best Martin O'Neil impression... Don't know if that's a fair comment or not but found it interesting...

'Gets jobs despite being rubbish' is unfair? It's an exact description of his career for most of the last decade.

Hmmm, he wasn't "rubbish" at Villa, nor at Wolves, very hard job at Blackburn and wasn't very good at Stoke. I'd say he's been living off his reputation for a long while and has held on to said reputation by a thread by knowing when's best to leave in order to spin the best narrative. Blackburn Rovers - activated his own release clause Wolverhampton Wanderers - mutual consent Stoke - mutual consent I think here was his last roll of the dice, he's blown it, his past glories with Livingston, Wycombe, Colchester and Norwich were a long, long time ago. If he's going to carry on managing I expect it will be back in Scotland next. [Post edited 15 May 2020 11:15]

Are you saying he wasn't also hopeless at those clubs? I cant work out what you are saying https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/watch-moment-villa To add to that Stoke fans also started the name Shambert https://wolvesfancast.com/stats-show-lambert-no-different-zenga-wolves/ [Post edited 15 May 2020 11:23]

It shouldn't surprise you after how Mick McCarthy was treated here, but supporters aren't always right. Lambert did a solid job at Villa in testing circumstances, he tailed off at the end mind you and was deserving of the sack.

I take it you're aware of what was going on behind the scenes at Villa over Lambert's tenure? He did an okay job there overall, even if the supporters don't see it. I'm in agreement with you that he's not achieved anything much in a lot of years but this weird rabid hate you appear to have of him reminds me of the way the "numbskulls" treated Mick, the only difference is Mick was a very good Football Manager.

You can argue the semantics of rubbish but he certainly hasn’t done a good job anywhere since Norwich Villa finished 16th the season before he took over. He then led them to finishes of 15th twice before being sacked in the relegation zone the following year (Tim Sherwood led them to safety) Blackburn he took over mid season in 16th. They finished 15th Wolves were 14th when he took over and finished in the same position Stoke were 18th, 1 point from safety when he took over. They finished 19th by virtue of winning their final game (a dead rubber against relegated Swansea) having been relegated with a game to spare You make a fair point re managing his exit - those mutual consent exits from Wolves and Stoke were very much mutual consent in name only

It looked rabid because I was a in such a minority that could see the blindingly obvious. Everyone else was so far at the other end of the spectrum in seeing through the fraud
