Well, it was alright, wasn’t it? 15:21 - Sep 13 with 1697 views | thebooks | The good: Dozzell’s passing, Bishop’s link up play and even [grits teeth] Nolan’s energy. Sears looked fairly dangerous, even in the second half when the rest of the team quietened down. Ditto Judge. Ward is good. Edwards played well. The bad: We petered out badly in the second half. Norwood did lots of pointless running. Toto still looks a bit shakey. The passing became plodding. That split central defender thing when Holy ends up launching it high into the sky anyway. I believe the technical phrase is our transition from defence to attack is still poor. The ugly: Huws has let himself go. The Wigan sub’s right buttock. Sad seeing Portman Road again empty. Still, a win! The Wigan right back was eye-wateringly bad, their left winger very good.

I thought Edwards was A lot more of a threat when he came on. One other slightly bad observation is that our players individually seem to have good spells but don't keep it up for the whole game.

It’s more that Sears kept doing *some* stuff when most the team disappeared for a lot of the second half. Like you say, they play well in bits but not for a whole game. Very early, I guess, and a win’s a win.

Should have been given a rollicking for being a selfish pillock just before half time by not teeing it up for Drinan to put us 2-0 up. Guess it didn’t matter in the end. Good, solid start to the season. The midfield three looked great too.

With both defence and strike force way below full strength our midfield is finally starting to look like our best area, possibly by default but it's nice to see. We'll still lack physicality though.

If we get lucky and Downes stays then swapping him in for Nolan would give us a cracking midfield balance going forward (assuming Bishops legs don’t fall off again and Dozzell keeps playing well)

Well, it was alright, wasn’t it? on 17:03 - Sep 13 with 1329 views | Dennyx4 | Bishop was very good first half, but didn't seem to have the energy to play the same way in the second half. Potentially should have been substituted earlier than he was. You can see why Nolan is picked, the only one with enough energy to get back and forward for the whole match - Downes could obviously do this too. Sears free kicks were extremely poor, some good link ups down the left and think Ward and Sears will make a very good left side partnership. Sears and Judge both flagged in the second half too - first proper game of the season, so maybe some slack should be given, but fitness appeared to be an issue.
Well, it was alright, wasn’t it? on 17:06 - Sep 13 with 1316 views | MonkeyAlan | Dozzell was ok. But he goes missing to much and is so lightweight. Will get bullied out of it too easily if he stays in the team. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Well, it was alright, wasn’t it? on 17:31 - Sep 13 with 1228 views | Wickets | I thought we did quite well ,pleased with the midfielders plus both Sears and Judge contributed well . Bit of a worry for a while second half as we either just ran out of steam or didn't know if we wanted to stick or twist. Perhaps give PL credit for the changes that seemed to get us going again . Thought Chambers seemed fitter than for a while and the vocal Ward is a good defensive plus .I'm still worried regards Centre defenders but if we can get KVY fit our first choice of the two Luke's should improve that . For Wigan Kal Naismith looked pretty decent and agree that the Left winger also had a good game .

Would be one of my names right now on form.

Nolan's 5km run times are very impressive. Think they were posted in an article over lockdown as about 17 minutes. He is clearly a fit guy and he has ability. You've got to have people like him who go at it for the whole 90 mins.

You can see why he was chosen to replace Downes - you need some energy in midfield. A 17 minute 5km is very impressive.

Whilst I agree that Nolan had a very good game all round, he doesn’t have Dozzell’s ability to open up a defense with one telling pass. Dozzell was pretty busy doing less glamorous stuff in the first half particularly. In the second we played much more defensively ,whether it was by design or whether it was forced on us is difficult to judge. Ward looks to be a very solid left back. He may not score goals like Garnett, but he did contribute very well going forward.
