PL on Downes 21:24 - Sep 16 with 2641 viewsTheTrueBlue1878

Had a chat yesterday, time to put it to bed and play.

Seemingly Downes on board, but job to get back into the team now.

Best for all parties.

Gets his head down, play well, add some goals to his game.

He can then get a better move in Jan if he really wants... and he might find a club that wants to buy him and play him rather than just loan him out.

He should move to an upper Championship side that will invest in him and give him game time. He'll be 22 in Jan.

It's a weird season, probably not the season to be selling our assets at underprice values

If we remain stuck in this league with this wage cap, we will be completely ruined

We really need to get back this season or it will be as damaging as our last Premier League relegation

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Would have upvoted but for your last line.

Downes walks into our team even as well as the current midfield have played. There is an argument for him being on the bench for a game or two as he will be lacking match fitness but he is overall first on the team sheet. He showed tonight when he came on that he is prepared to play.

seems like good man management to me.

Yes he is probably our best midfielder on last seasons showing but it's right and very healthy that he has to fight to get back in.

I wouldn’t read too much into it.

Presumably the club have just reiterated what their asking price is and said that if anyone values him as highly as we do then we won’t stand in his way. Until then we all need to work together.

He is our best, but ultimately Nolan, Bishop and Dozzell deserve to start the next game

It’s not that I don’t think Downes is a terrific player, but do Nolan, Dozzell and Bishop deserve your be dropped. Absolutely not.

Will have to wait for form to drop first, can’t go through a situation like this, and then just walk back in when the players who have stepped in have taken their chances so well.

Positive that he's got on the pitch & hopefully he's in a better frame of mind, although he could still go until 5/10 when the window closes. Not sure Palace - or any PL club - is the right move for him now as he won't get much game time. A decent Championship club would be better for him, but I doubt they would pay us top dollar. Hopefully he will stay, get his head down & help Town to the top of the league by January.

Indeed. And it's a nice problem to have. Those players will be even more on their toes than they already are, knowing that Flynn is waiting to get back in.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

I agree, if Palace haven't come back with an offer that meets his valuation then hopefully the pair have had an honest chat and the only way forward that's in the interest of both parties is to put it to bed and get going again.

Definitely sends the right message to leave him on the bench on Saturday though. Dozzell - Nolan - Bishop have the shirts and they're theirs to lose now, they deserve to start Saturday.

Extraordinary that some posters on this forum are touting him as a £5m Premier League player and in the next breath saying he shouldn't walk into the first team.

That's less a reflection on his ability, more an acknowledgement that we should operate a meritocracy and you're only as good as your last game. We've all sat here and said we want to see less rotation, so personally I don't see a valid reason for dropping any of the side that just beat Wigan.

Disagree with that. Nolan, Dozzer and Bish have started brilliantly, Downes has to earn his way into the fits team now.
