HS2 protest 12:45 - Jan 31 with 711 views | NthQldITFC | https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-55877829 The very last paragraph of this made me laugh. I know it's an editorial error, but somehow it could be what they said, because. "A government spokesman said HS2 would continue because and form a vital part of the UK's future infrastructure."

HS2 protest on 13:07 - Jan 31 with 671 views | factual_blue | My view FWIW is that our current rail infrastructure is so antiquated that the only way we modernise is with brand new routes. I blame the incompetence of the Luftwaffe.

Yes the loss of ancient woodland is terrible, but it’s minimal, and you have to take the long view.... 7 million trees are being planted in phase 1 alone Our carbon target means no flights from London to manc and no fossil lorries, ASAP. Trains are just a very efficient means of travel, and freeing the traditional lines for commuter and freight is a win. Critically, is the jobs created into the supply chain. Would you rather the government furloughed people at home, or build a transport asset for the next century?

HS2 protest on 14:33 - Jan 31 with 564 views | Ryorry | HS2 always was a ludicrous project, particularly given the ridiculous price tag, always was liable to be underused & a white elephant by the time the first passenger boarded, and doubly so now the pandemic has hastened new ways of working. A beyond ridiculous waste of stupendous sums of money, but then look who's been in power for the last few years #Cronyism

Older trees absorb more carbon than newer trees, not sure of balance between those cut down v those planted Just don't really get why flying to Manchester cheaper than train, likewise really not a lot in it, when taking into travel to / from both airports, assuming offices / meetings are city centre. So even reducing travel time may not draw in passengers if the price isn't right.

It’s not just the trees though is it. The loss of habitat and biodiversity. Ecosystems that have built up over 100’s of years. You can’t just transplant that. https://www.inews.co.uk/news/chris-packhams-stop-hs2-petition-gathers-pace-82283

The company I work for has just done its yearly review. The amount of money saved on travel expenses has been very large, and the company has still managed to progress. Money saved on travelling is being ploughed back into growth. I think mass transportation for travelling fast and efficiently was last centuries problem. I think the argument about the benefit for business, would have to be rationally re-assessed at the very least. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
