'Many treehoppers secrete honeydew, a sweet by-product of digestion.' 'They may injure trees and shrubs when the female deposits her yellow, elongated eggs into a double row of curved slits cut into the bark. Fungi and other plant diseases also may enter through these slits.' https://www.britannica.com/animal/treehopper

They do however jump around like monkeys.... The thorn bug is an occasional pest of ornamentals and fruit trees in southern Florida. During heavy infestations, nymphs and adults form dense clusters around the twigs, branches and even small tree trunks. Some hosts that have been severely damaged including.....woman's tongue tree (Albizzia lebbek).....a tree best avoided!

Excellent stuff. And re: best fictional dog, it died a death. But fwiw it probably was best put down as I was going to fix it in Roobarb's favour anyway.

Yep, 500 posts all variants on the same theme is a bit tedious however warranted the sentiment may be. The odd interesting distraction is part of TWTD.

When performing their courtship call, the thorn bugs use the muscles in their abdomen to generate a continuous call that decreases in frequency as the tone gets longer, and high frequency clicks at periodic times in the call caused by the muscles pulling on the horn of the insect resulting in the clicks.

As I said at the time, I'm no insect expert. I leave that to Banksy and other naturalists... or is that naturists?

Yes, please stick to positive insect/monkey related content on these threads. And no abusing the Smiths either, Morrissey has feelings, y'know. Thanks in advance.

Yes, we know Morrissey has feelings - does he ever stop going on about them? Anyway, looking at the photo in the OP again I can see that the treehoppers have lined up 2-3-3-2, same as Lambert is setting his players up today (Diamond / Christmas Tree / with bells on / actually the players are not given any formation guidance at all, once the team is selected they have to try and juggle themselves into whatever position seems to fit.) Now we know that if we want ITFC def info before anyone else we can look to a Bankster nature notes thread getting posted early on a match day... [Post edited 20 Feb 2021 14:41]
