Does seem baffling that some healthcare workers would be reluctant to get the vaccine.

The excellent BBC series Hospital touched on this the other week, showing a nurse who was reluctant to be vaccinated because she has sickle cell markers and hadn't be able to find any research to tell her if it was OK to have the jab. The hospital (the one in Coventry where the first vaccination was given) had a matron or senior nurse prowling the hospital for unvaccinated staff, and she'd spoken to this nurse. The matron managed to find research that showed it was OK for her to be jabbed, and the nurse duly was.

That seemed to me a perfectly reasonable concern for the nurse. That doesn't apply to all NHS staff I realise.

Very high incidence of BAME staffing within some NHS trusts. Some communities have been absolutely hammered with anti vaccine sentiment. Cultural reasons and how their communities work is also playing a role.

The thing is, getting vaccinated does not stop you getting covid - especially for those working in a high risk situation. I'm guessing those in high risk groups have been vaccinated unless they are paid up conspiracy theorists or have some deeply ingrained objection.

It is perfectly feasible for all the NHS staff to be vaccinated and still be off work with covid - so on that basis forcing NHS staff to get vaccinated is just yet more baloney from the government.
