Battenberg was definitely a thing when I was a kid but mostly among the adults.
The kids would touch it with a long pole, even at that age its pasty appearance was unappetizing.

I can remember 'Vienetta' being the dessert of luxury back in the 80's. The dessert that you would have when you went round to your middle class mate's house for tea and marvel at their microwave, TV with a remote control and central heating system.

Those chocolate crispie things were the first I can probably remember. Homemade rock cakes were a big 'favourite' too. It was in the mid-70s and we were pretty skint, so we only ever had homemade cakes and biscuits. I can still remember how excited my parents were when my mum got a part time job and then they could afford to buy biscuits! TWTD. |  |
