has it been good year for turtle doves or have I just been lucky? I have had more sightings of those feathered purring chaps in the last three weeks than over the last twenty years.

We live in a stronghold for the purring beauties...maybe they are spreading out.

Have collared ones visit my garden regularly, (after the feed the smaller birds drop from the feeders), but haven't seen any Turtle ones.

You've just been lucky though a few have been driven into gardens as more people feed throughout the summer. One factor that might have helped their breeding success as a one off this year is the big decrease in pheasants dumped in the countryside.

There are a group of four Rock Doves (easy to spot, they're the ones wearing leather jackets...) that swoop down on my bird table and crowd all the smaller birds out, usually knocking the water tray off the table in the process. I would love to host Collared Doves if all they do is ground feed.

Several Turtle Doves around Bedingfield and Redlingfield areas. Better year for them. However, the horrific culling of these birds in France and other Southern European Countries doesn’t help. They will become extinct in this country. That’s my unfortunate prediction.

We've had a pair of collared for a few months. I think they're now on their third breeding cycle of the year.

That’s three more times than me this year then.

I know someone who works for RSPB doing a study on Turtle Doves right now. I believe numbers are in sharp decline. He may well be interested to know when and where your sightings are. If you can give an idea of locations and numbers I'll let him know and he may want to get in touch if that's ok? He's an ITFC fan if that helps
