To be fair, the simple reply to that is "if Forest are a small club, how come Rangers aren't too?" It is fair enough if the same rules apply to both. |  |

Ha! They’re just sleeping giants. Nobody can be a small club with their record, however long ago it was. It’s like Bolton, Blackpool, Preston, Sunderland and, er, little old us. All proper clubs who’ve shaped the history of the game. That’s why Norwich are still pretenders and always will be until they win something a time or three (edit - at the top level. To be fair, if you swapped Forest and Rangers over in the respective leagues I suspect they would both be performing about as well as each club is now (i.e. Forest competing with Celtic for the title every season and Rangers struggling to challenge for promotion). The only real problem would be for Forest travelling to all their away games! | |

Yes, quite apart from their European Cups, Notts Forest have been the champions of the East Midlands a fair few times, and that part of the UK is not much smaller in terms of population than the part they call Scotland. |  | | |

I know a Derby fan who has a well rehearsed speech about how the European Cup was easy to win back then and not much to shout about as you only had to beat 4 teams to get to the final and you would play at least 2 minor nations champions along the way. |  |

When I studied in Nottingham, everyone from up north considered it to be down south and everyone from south of it considered it to be northern! I guess it is about as central as you can get in England.
I have never been to Scotland, but I do like the idea of getting to Nottingham and someone in the car saying "are we nearly there yet?" and I can reply "yes, we are on the doorstep of Aberdeen. Only another 7 hours to go!" | |
