Had an ask around, I don't think there is or was anyone in for Walton (despite my earlier tweet re Posh).
Walton has little value to Brighton currently, but the only value for him is in being a third choice and allowing their other keeper to go out on loan - it's the only think that improves their situation.
Walton will need to take approx a £10k a week paycut to come here, so unless he is prepared to leave £250k on the table then it is unlikely to happen - his ideal scenario, and ours is to extend the loan - but unless something goes wrong for Brighton they aren't going to countenance it.
It's going to be a rubbish situation which sees him not playing and us not getting him when he wants to be here and we want him. |  |

We can get a new loan for him - there's no real gain for Brighton to sell him to us as they need a number 3 in the covid season. If they have to pay his contract so that they can get their other keeper some football than so be it.
Otherwise a deal gets done transfer wise and they have to pay him up for him to go - think only way we see him here is if they can't get their 3rd choice out on loan and then they have 4 keepers so he is surplus then - but will be a waiting game | |

Presumably not beyond us to return that £250k to him in some way, either via a signing on fee, loyalty bonus or just structuring the deal so Brighton pay a portion of his wages (whilst we pay a transfer fee)?

Indeed, pretty standard way of things progressing in these circumstances. I'd imagine as in the case of some other players we'll offer a four-and-a-half-year deal rather than the three which might otherwise be expected to make up for the loss of weekly wage.
Walton happy here and keen to stay, from what I gather. Brighton want him sold so I think a move to us suits all parties, as long as the money side of it gets agreed, of course. |  | | |
