Jackson 11:55 - Feb 22 with 1275 viewscressi

I was one of the people who thought he would never make it here never saw the player we spent all the money on perform to a high level
Now Saturday was his best performance in a Town shirt But he has to be consistent at least seven in ten decent performances not three or four a season I would love to eat humble pie and say that in there ,there's a good player don't know what others may think

Remember, he's a striker that under Lambert and when we were not playing well and him being played out wide still managed to get goals and assists.

I've never understood why he got so much stick.

A lot of people have forgotten how Murphy wasn't rated by many when he was here on loan stuck out on the wing.

Despite contributing as you say and fulfilling a role he wasn't suited to.

100 games 19 goals that’s why very poor return for a striker in the old 3rd division.

In an underperforming team where he was consistently played out of position.

Given the wider context of his playing time under former managers - his stats are decent, he has scored goals and contributed with assists.

Agreed. A broken clock is right twice per day, to justify being a £1.7m forward in the prime of their career he should really be showing a level of consistency and making himself very hard to leave out. Hopefully McKenna can get a tune out of him where others have failed, Saturday was encouraging.

He's rarely played in a confident, well-functioning team in his time at Ipswich.

I don't see the fee paid for him as that relevant really. He's received some completely over the top negative opinions on here - he was more than decent when paired with Norwood a couple of years ago and we now have a manager that focuses on his strengths again.

I'm really pleased for him, some of the abuse here (particularly from one poster) was completely out of order. He's back with one decent and one motm performance, sure he'll continue to be important til the end of the season and just what we needed right now.

Almost seems a little unfair to bring up his transfer fee now given that was four years, four managers and an entirely different club ago.

Think he’ll score again tonight.

I think he's also received some over the top positive opinions based on 1 game too. I don't dislike him, he's just an OK L1 forward I would say, and his career would suggest that's about right. While there have definitely been occasions where he's played out of position, and I don't know what went on with Lambert when he got frozen out, but Jackson has also put in some pretty pony performances for us which we shouldn't let his most recent performance cloud. He's been part of a squad that has underachieved in recent years. Personally I wouldn't have offered him a contract extension last summer, but we did. He hasn't yet justified that, but perhaps if he plays like he did on Saturday until the end of the season he might just.

I agree re. abuse, of course, nobody should be abusing anyone. I get the impression Jackson has been through a bit of a tought time, I would love for him to kick on under McKenna and find his mojo.

DId he get "so much stick" because he wanted to go, and then actually wasn't that good? I don't know.

He wasn't great in the championship, had a decent half a season with Norwood in our first season in L1. Then seems to have done not a lot.

Yes hes played slightly out of position but that doesn't mean he can be poor most games, which he has over the past few seasons.

Before he signed for us he had 1 good season in league 2. That was it really. We massively overpaid for him based on that.

However, as other people have said, we have been poor for 2nd half of the first season and last season. We weren't really scoring much were we?

If he comes good for the remianer of the season, then great. I still don't think he will be here next season. If hes super for a few months, someone else will porbably pick him up on a a free. If not, we will release him.

It's interesting that even in January 2021, there were a couple of Championship clubs willing to pay a fee for him. And in the summer of 2020, Bournemouth were prepared to pay about £1m for him having just got relegated from the Premier League.

Watching on Saturday you do wonder if we've missed a trick with him. My bugbear has always been that he doesn't know how to use his pace but he was devastating with it at the weekend.

McKenna clearly really likes him and sees a player he can get a lot more out of. We could say the same about Woolfenden, who many people wouldn't have batted an eyelid at going in the summer - he now looks a top, top defender and IMO one of the most likely to have suitors higher up in the summer.

My thoughts too Cressi. It is great that KJ is bouncing back, but he's played two games, one being an extremely good game on Saturday against Burton. I think it's important to keep things in perspective, instead of going overboard, but I'm prepared to eat humble pie if needed. Lets see if he can keep that standard of performance up over a series of games. Lets not forget that Bonne was undroppable two months ago, things can change very quickly in football.

Like a lot of current(and former) players of recent times, Jackson is a player who's been in desperate need of some proper coaching, motivation and structure around him.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.
