Set pieces - specialist coaching 14:23 - Mar 1 with 1111 views | Illinoisblue | How many pro clubs have specialized set piece coaches? I believe Liverpool do (even for throw-ins) and Man Utd also. Can’t imagine many at L1 level do. Corners are very obviously something we need to work on, both in terms of delivery and attacking the ball. Can just imagine Ashton asking for another 100k a year for another coach. Pension fund suit: “and this is to teach professionals how to kick a ball?”

Set pieces - specialist coaching on 14:28 - Mar 1 with 1093 views | Swansea_Blue | It’s becoming a bit of a thing this at most clubs. There was an article down here about the swans a few weeks back saying they’d gone well over 100 corners since they scored directly or indirectly from one. I thing the stats in general are ridiculously low for all teams. Not sure why - more attention being given to specialist defensive coaching maybe?

Given how unproductive most corners are, it’s even more baffling to see a lack of creativity or ‘trick plays’. Most just seem aimlessly lofted in or, worse, fail to beat the first man. Banter era rules still apply currently, so Toto will probably score an 89th minute winner from a corner against us on Saturday.

- Keepers being protected more - Refs more strict on pushing and shoving - Probably fewer players around who are willing to put their head where it hurts - Hours spent training how to defend set pieces

Corners are overrated - apparently. https://sqaf.club/goals-from-corners-stats/

Set pieces - specialist coaching on 14:39 - Mar 1 with 1024 views | Darth_Koont | I’m surprised clubs don’t make more use of specialist coaches on more of a visiting basis. Maybe they do and we just don’t hear about it. But a second opinion on corners, a few pointers from a throw-in coach, running specialist, sports psychologist etc. would seem the way to go. Otherwise, I don’t see how a club (in League One especially) can cover all the knowledge needed to get all the marginal gains.

In brief - only 3% of corners lead to a goal (and only 1.5% directly).

Though, in part, isn't that more to do with the fact teams don't make enough of them? For example, under Lambert I liked the fact he tried to leave 3 or 4 players up when the opposition had a corner...something different etc.

Did he? I thought he made a big thing about getting everyone back for corners.

Set pieces - specialist coaching on 15:28 - Mar 1 with 844 views | Bluespeed225 | Neil Thompson will do it for 250 a week and a fish supper on Fridays. Joking apart, was he the last decent taker we had? Did Venus ever take any?

Let’s do it! Obviously we need people who have the skill, experience and insight first. But I can definitely send an invoice.
