You're right, I should have known they'd both won it. No room for doubt there.

Lived it myself Footers and whist I can't deny the beauty of the birds eye factory nor the charm of the sparrows nest and I am esp fond of the banjo twang as one makes ones way down through the Oulton Broad delta, neither can I ignore that the kids learn to count to 12 (and often 24) v quickly

Norwich by contrast I have genuine affinity for, a fine city indeed, wonderful old churches and many a decent watering hole just be sure to lock the car doors when driving through for fear of being kidnapped to dilute the gene pool.

Beyond the city walls it can all get a bit wrong turn.

Do the lights of the Wherry Hotel still shine like a beacon to the lonely fisherman craving hot meal as the towns lovers bob their backsides up and down on the sands showing their significant others (or siblings) a good time? Or has it all been gentrified since my day, perhaps those ruffians have been beaten back to Beccles, or at least confined to Pontins at Pakefield?

The Birds Eye pea factory was the plum summer job for the yoofs. Never made the cut though :(

The Wherry is in Oulton Broad so not many hairy arsed trawlermen would see that, although the Hatfield is still on the front. Wherry or Commodore are best for watching the powerboats though!

I still don't understand how that Pontins is going. Uncle footers was in that trade and went for a looksie to see if it was a viable site. Sadly not. Apparently it's properly run down now after decades of neglect.

Went to high school in Nodge and indeed it is a lovely place. Shame about the residents really.

Not been to CC in some time but it's not a bad old place. And of course there's the delightful transport museum for fans of trolleybuses.

Oh gosh I got 2 hotels quite close together mixed up. That must mean I don't know anything. I congratulate you on that superb piece of Gotcha journalism.

In the mean time God called and says since you don't use it he's taken your sense of humour back.

Now back to Pontins with you, how did you get out?

I used to drink in "The Dutchman" or "The Flying Dutchmen" in the mid 80's......was that Oulton Broad or CC? Is it still going? Always reminded me of Arnold and Frans going in there.

The pub is still going, and rather amusingly there is a takeaway food stall out front now called "The Frying Dutchman"

OB I think, I have memories of appetiser and cider lollies there in my formative years as the adults enjoyed something stronger, not Uncle Bob mind, he'd be driving.

It's at Oulton Broad South. Think it had a time as a gay pub but not completely sure.

They also used to put on some very good live bands and acts, but again don't know if that's true these days.
