Ruben Rodrigues - Notts County 22:53 - May 23 with 2177 viewsitfcsuth

Has been linked with many clubs, and rightly so, has had a stellar season and following Notts County losing this evening you’d imagine he will be available at a good fee.

Looks a really really good player, absolutely no doubt he’ll be playing at League 1 or above next year - has to be someone we take real interest in.

Has featured in Burchnalls side this season in a 3-5-2 and would suit our system perfectly, he’s quick, technically very good, clinical finisher, very good link up player. Really is the all round package for me.

20 goals will clearly peak the interest of many, we must be taking a look at him.

32 goals in 80 games at non league level. Not terrible but also less prolific than Norwood... No i haven't seen him play.

He’s a completely different player to Norwood. He’s more of a cute false 9/attacking midfielder than a out and out no.9

Has played in partnership with Kyle Wootton this season, but certainly more the flair player of the two.

Can operate in any of the front 3 roles in our system - 3-4-2-1

Personally don't see it I understand late development and such his 25 if 19 maybe we need proven or young players from top clubs we can develop

Town haven’t been idle, we would have been looking at potential signings since January.

2023 year of destiny

This sounds a bit Evans Poundland to me. Can we not look people with a little more pedigree and/or promise? This player maybe the new undiscovered Messi, but at 26 in August, playing non league football and no particular standard before that, I seriously doubt it. I’ve seen the odd non league football match in the last few years and while fitness is good, the quality is not.

Jamie Vardy was picked up around the same age by Fleetwood who were League 2 at the time I believe, then got his move to Leicester, I'm not saying this is the equivalent, but he could be our own version of Vardy and fire us to promotion and that mystical 20+ goal striker we all seem to be calling out for

It can happen, Jamie Vardy didn't turn professional with Fleetwood until he 25.

We couldn't get him under Evans. They already turned bids down for him from a League 1 side in January.

There has been many of players of come from that level at different stages of their career. Glenn Murray was still playing Non League until 23.

Rodrigues is a different player to Vardy, and more of a creative, link up, cute and clever player who would actually play in one of the no.10 roles. Him and Celina as additions would be perfect for me.

20 goals in the role he plays is very impressive stats.

Lord knows what you said when we took Tyrone Mings from Chippenham Town then.

TBF Tyronne was what, 19? 20? Not long released from a PL academy with a goof reputation.

That's a little different to a 25 Yr old who's been non leage for a while and hardly been prolific for a lot of it.

Of course players and their respective games develop at different rates but it's a bit apples and oranges isn't it

Poll: Will Phil ever confirm we are actually close on a signing ever again

Totally agree, this was the viewpoint I was going for,

Perfect example of this is the italian lad at Milan who signed a pro deal 3 years ago at 27, and just won the Scudetto,

If you're good enough, you can make it, and under McKenna, we've seen a lot of improvements in a lot of our players games, so this could be ideal if he could get the best out of him

Looks decent but I rather hope our sights are set higher and in fact I’m given to understand they definitely are. I think two or three of our signings will be amazing frankly.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
Poll: With Evans taking 65% in Huddersfield, is the Banter Era over?

He was a kid, a bit different, plus he cost very little.

I agree we will make some very good signings this summer. Would love to see Celina back, but to bring somebody like Rodrigues in who is so versatile, still 25 and has that desire to develop still - think he'd be a really good fit and a good squad option for us.

Principle remains the same regardless, you can still develop at different stages of careers - you discarded him because of the league he was in - I merely mentioned that Tyrone Mings was ever lower in the leagues.

I may be wrong but I strongly suspect any “project players” will be in the lines of Harper and come from PL academies.

Possibly, and likely to be the like of Thompson - although currently it hasn't particularly worked out with Harper/Edwards

Different in my view too. 26 by the start of the season, banging them in for one season in the non-leagues makes him a no for me. For every rare find like Ian Wright, Vardy, Murray or even Walters, there are loads of no chance. I’ll never forget Sam Parkin. Looked the real deal for Swindon. Scored with ease in a division below us, but it was blindingly obvious within 20 mins he couldn’t play at Championship level.

I’d love the bloke to be signed and to prove me wrong, but I just can’t see it. Not the way to go for where we are at the moment in my view.

I don’t think he will be signed - but we should look at him. He will certainly move up the divisions this summer for me.

I’d like Danny Loader as my first choice - but sure other clubs will be sniffing around him as well.
