One should perhaps not make such a comment on such an important subject, but I assume people are being thrown into the sea if they are being treated like s**t.

I've never been exactly the revolutionary type (I'm sure DK will agree ;/) but it's got to the point where even I think some kind of revolution is required.

There's going to be a catastrophic breakdown in UK society this winter if Tories carry on like this & there's no GE. Even the tories will feel it when hell is breaking loose around them because the NHS can't cope with the extra numbers arising from people living with no heating, homelessness due to mortgage/rent arrears, shortage of key workers etc.

Nowhere have I seen or heard a single member of this govt. even mention that the NHS also has somehow to find the extra dosh to pay for the massive increase in energy prices, let alone have any kind of plan to deal ith it.

I'm guessing civil unrest will explode quite naturally without much need to be formally organised. It needs to be en masse, as in millions - the police & judicial system simply wouldn't be able to deal with that number of "noisy" protesters simultaneously.

I'm as angry, almost daily now, as Mr Gardiner, and that's before I even start thinking about the horrendous impact on the environment this sh1t government are causing. I know much of TWTD feels the same. Solidarity! & thanks for listening to my vent

100% agree, we are being led by individuals who are generally very very well off and will feel very little impact by the cost of living crisis, they have zero empathy which is of course a long held conservative core value. There’s a lesson to be learned here - never vote conservative, ever.

I agree. And I may be being overly optimistic here but I believe that we retain enough decency, democracy and (perhaps well-hidden) self-awareness in the people of this country as a whole, to be able to bounce back on an opposite tack fairly effectively.

The police and armed forces won't do this evil government's dirty work for them when things get really tough, the tory party will rot to nothingness very quickly, and we will bounce back into a socially- and environmentally-responsible way of being along with a number of other European countries.

It's not that the wealth and capacity to do all this isn't there, it's just that the will to do it has been buried in the majority under the stench of self-interest and ego-driven over consumption. That is going to be forced to change now, and in fact the self-interest for the vast majority will be aligned with this change anyway.

Maybe over-optimistic, but only impossible if we find ways to not make it happen.

I'm usually optimistic by nature, just wish I could share yours there.

Problem as I see it is that so many tory constituencies comprise, like mine, large rural areas* full of large numbers of relatively comfortably off people who are quite insulated from what's going on elsewhere, & who may have to draw in their horns in their spending, but will manage to find the extra from somewhere.

Many are also dyed in the wool blue from birth, & too tribal to change. Those who are a bit more socially conscious may well switch to LD (even managed to make this switch in our parish in the last local election!) - but they'll never vote a Lab MP in, tho of course a LD gain would all be grist to the mill in removing Tories from power.

Generalisation I know, but not many of the blue-rinse brigade do social media or alternative news sources, they tend to get their news from msm - another reason for my hoping for mass protests on the streets, which BBC & ITV couldn't really avoid covering.

Just two of the outcomes from a Government that cares more about benefitting the richest than people generally.

It's not about growth, it's about distribution.

That needs to be on a banner when we march on Westminster this autumn.

Yes indeed.

The rabid religion of suicidal growth forced mostly into the already filthy rich pockets of the planet's richest few percent, just like cancerous nodules...

...or, a cooling down and redistribution enabling the body as a whole the chance to survive.

Anything but the latter is insane. Society and the future of Planet Earth are in sync on this one.

I am applying the crayon to my bedsheets this afternoon.

This is becoming reminiscent of the poll tax. It was not the riots that ended it, but it was "when matrons in Maidenhead are out in protest" as one Tory MP put it.

Three of the recent by-elections have shown a huge revolt against the Tories, most specifically against the corruption and sleaze of the bloated shyster. This autumn will see that discontent spread into direct action, as people are forced to take action to survive.

An asifde to this is my local Sainsburys who have rid themselves of senior staff to fill the shop with students/partimers. in their witless stupidity they removed people of the till and installed card only machines, bar three. With two exits there is in the evening one student left to monitor the self serve checkouts and the till whwn trequitred. one of the remaining staff told me Sainsburys are reporting a masssive increase in the rate of 'shrinkage' as folk simply walk out of the door without paying.

If you are on Jobseekers Allowance you receive £77. is there anything from that left over to meet higher food/fuel costs ?

Whilst I have no doubts that Truss will change tack once elected, the harm has already been done. To talk of handouts is insulting, and demonstrates their mindset. Were gasmasks in 1940 'hand outs'. ?

It may not come to "eat the rich", but expect shoplifting to massively increase, and the Don't Pay UK numbers are growing by the day
