Wonder how much ITFC get from the gambling fans… 12:41 - Sep 27 with 1617 viewsSitfcB

That’s a bit naughty really isn’t it??

So if you sign up to Sky Bet via an advert on the clubs channels they get money from losses, wtf.

This is common in a lot of areas via signups for gambling. It’s called affiliate betting.

So those tipster accounts that want people to sign up via their link for a £20 free bet or whatever, they would get a percentage of the losses for that customer from the bookie themselves. Tipsters, Twitter accounts like Unilad etc, football clubs, etc are all at it. It’s pretty common. Not necessarily right but it’s not really a secret.

Yeah I knew all that but didn’t know that the football clubs were at it! But they never tweet out an advert about Sky Bet or anything etc tbf.

Wow! Basically encouraging people to lose money for their own gain as opposed to tipping people to win then?

It depends if they’re an affiliate tipster or not basically. A lot of successful tipster with a following gain loyal followers of their tips. It’s at that stage where a bookie might approach for them to become an affiliate. Most tipsters turn it down as it clearly would affect their integrity. Obviously my racing previews are on a far lower scale and don’t get more than 6,000 views at most but I’d never go affiliate.

Because it’s usually some money for getting people to join. But then more and more percentage wise for losses each month. So the tipster could get them to sign up, and then even the punter loses money betting under 19s basketball or something equally wild, the affiliate tipster would still get a percentage even though they had nothing to do with those specific bets.

Surprising that they don’t, given it’s in their interest to do so.

It also looks like the clubs get the vast majority of the iFollow subs. That example there, Accrington get £8.50 for each international match pass (which presumably is £10 same as ours). I’d have thought that would be the other way round with iFollow/EFL taking most of the cash. But maybe the costs all land on us.

We must be doing pretty well out of it if we’re getting record audiences.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?
