Simon Reeve, the travel documentary man 19:42 - Sep 29 with 1854 viewsMiaow

I've watched a couple of episodes of his Americas programme recently.

Decided to read his Wikipedia page and was stunned to find out he is 50.

I would have said he was almost ten years younger.

An acquaintance saw him at lunchtime in the pub in the town I used to live in. He was going to do a show in a nearby theatre. Briefly said hello, got chatting, said his Dad, who has travelled the world collecting cactuses, was a huge fan, but hadn't been able to get tickets.

You can see where this is going, right? Simon Reeve says "I'll get him in!"

Nope!

Simon Reeve said "Phone him up, get him down here."

Old Barry turns up and Simon Reeve spends two hours chatting with him.

What a lovely man!

Absolutely love watching his travels.
Best travel documentary presenter imo (closely followed by Michael Palin).

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

He's done a few series all of which I have enjoyed immensely. His current South Ameica trip is on BBC2 I think Monday nights, he really seeks out some interesting places, not afraid to get to tbe heart of what is going on.

If you like that kind of thing I'd also recommend both series of race around the world and the bits Levison Wood has done, Walking the Himalayas and a couple of others

I'd never have thought Simon Reeve was 50 though. Positively boyish

His piece on Madagascar circa 10 years ago was incredible. He calls out Attenborough for not telling the truth about how small the rainforest is now. Great traveller who finds the truth.

Used to really enjoy Race Around the World....although travelling fast would go against my every instinct. Covid was not that programme's friend.

Wood made a series where he walked through part of Central America. Some of it was in dodgy and war torn places. Was called Walking the Americas, on Chan 4.
