Always going to be tough going in there and following a manager who has recently won a cup final.

Good luck to MB though, I used to knock about with him a bit albeit he's a couple of years older. Nice bloke.

Seems very brave by the U’s.

I haven’t heard him speak myself, but I've heard he is at least articulate, and I think that’s a good start.

He is not their manager. Colchester don't have Managers. He's their Head Coach.

Sadly, he's unlikely to succeed as Tony Humes (DoF) effectively runs the show there, nothing will change. You'll find that it's Tony (sadly) that needs to move on.

And not many people understand how much Colchester fans of a certain generation dislike Wycombe. (And it’s reciprocated .) As I say, it’s a bold choice.

Up there with appointing Lambert as a 'bold' choice. I hope he's good at pressers...

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Lambert had substantial managerial experience ( -at Wycombe, coincidentally.)

Yesterday I heard the theory that much of Colchester’s decline can be traced back to Lambert. ( I don’t know how true it is, but it goes like this:

Geraint Williams, the club’s finest ever manager, was sacked, with great regret all round. Lambert came in and insisted on having a lot of his own backroom staff , ( not just coaching and medical, but also admin) and many long-term employees lost their jobs. Lambert and co soon left for Norfolk, and the club was missing key people. Cowling has never forgotten this, and has since then never really sacked anyone, so the club is now clogged up with ex-coaches doing imaginary jobs. the new coach will have partly been chosen because he’ll come alone or perhaps with one pal, not with a whole bunch of sidekicks.
