Not getting too carried away 09:34 - Oct 5 with 1019 views | textbackup | Because let’s face it, we’ve become used to failure. However, if we were to gain promotion (which yeah fck it we will) I’m intrigued as to where we strengthen in the summer. Because I really don’t believe just staying up that first season will be our aim. I can’t see MA, KMc, or the owners wanting to push for anything less than top 6. Which might sound crazy, and I might have forgotten how decent the championship top 6/8 actually are. We know a striker or 2 would be the main aim. But elsewhere… possibly an upgrade on Donacian? Or would he be fine in that role in the championship?

It would likely spell the end for KVY, Penney, Harper, Pigott, Jackson, perhaps Aluko too. Make room for some quality additions.

Yeah I didn’t want to say who I thought it would be the end of, as didn’t wish to sound negative, but yeah a few names there I agree with. Take Barry ban off sheff weds if they fail to go up [Post edited 5 Oct 2022 9:45]

I remember Mike O'Leary saying in his very first interview alongside Brett Johnson right after the takeover happened that the Championship is a tough league to get out of whilst also making it clear that doing exactly that is the objective. If promotion happens this season then it's vital to keep the momentum going and build year on year, not least because one good season in the Champ will be enough to convince other clubs that McKenna is the real deal, which I feel confident will happen as we have an engaged and smart ownership group who will back the manager rather than do things like sell his best striker in the final days of the transfer window and replace him with a past it journeyman. As we well know there's a fine line between giving the squad an upgrade and disrupting things too much. Some regulars now might become cover and, slightly excitingly, our scope for transfers opens up a bit and imagine we'll be able to get a couple of real high quality loans in to help us out. Still in the distance for now but no reason not to think things could be really on the up if we get this season and the next right.

We have some good defenders, but at the top end of the Championship it's really another level. Also, I'd suggest a more clinical 9 and 10. Again, what we have is decent, but we do waste a lot of opportunities when we get into the final third and we won't be able to afford to do so quite so much if we do intend to be successful at the level above.
