School trips... 22:39 - Oct 20 with 1126 viewsPendejo

The other day I had one of those moments where suddenly I had a total recall moment about the first secondary school, school trip I went on.

This was sparked by some kids throwing one of those tiny paper bags with him powder in from a first floor window. ( snappers)

Which took me back to my first school trip at secondary school... Summer of 1980 Boulogne... And the realisation that two coach loads of 12 and 13 year olds were simply let loose on arrival...
Many bought snappers, gin & tonic flavoured sweets, nudie pens, stink bombs and knives.

I can also recall some French fella trying to throw Jason Dozzell from the wayside into the water.

Juxtapose this against last school trip at junior school - York and chaparoned everywhere.

If my kids had been similarly let loose, I'd have probably been angry about it.

Ha, yep! We (Stoke High) did Boulougne too in 85. Pretty much as you say, just let loose. I think the idea was we were supposed to use the little French we had but not sure anybody did. And I think every boy in our year bought one of those nudie pens. Good times!

At the end of my first year at secondary school we went on a weeks trip to the Isle Of White. Not as exotic, but a very similar arrangement. There were a couple of organised activities, I remember Go Karting, but mostly it was an excursion that involved bussing us somewhere, kicking us off and telling us to be back several hours later.

A trip that is forever fond in my memory, I got something the Rolling Stones entitled an album.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Lol, you set my mind off. Can’t remember exactly which year possibly (1985). At Copleston High we had a trip to London. We were booted out near Chinatown in groups of 5. I seem to remember that our group headed towards Soho, can’t imagine why….then back to Lilywhites to look at the latest casual wear and Oxford Street….going to Westminster rings a bell too all unsupervised…..no issues.

I was on the ferry from Boulogne once and there was a bunch of school kids in uniform all telling a Sikh boy called Ramesh to take his turban off so they could hide their flick-knives.

We went to Germany in 1986, place called Coblenz on the Rhine. It was a fairly nice town, but ruined by groups of spotty 12 year old English schoolchildren in jeans and t-shirts practising their non-existent German on bemused locals (who all spoke perfect English anyway) and trying to get into the sex shops.

Teachers didn't supervise us and just went off to the local bars and vineyards. We were (sort of) supervised by the German exchange student, a twenty-two year old woman with hairy forearms and the sort of facial acne that earned her the cruel nickname of "Dot-to-dot".

She used to try and interest us in long walks by the river. Now I'm older, I often wish I'd joined her and the two other lads who joined her in the hope of a shag in some gladed pasture.

On the coach home, she fell asleep and one of the crueller kids finally 'joined the dots' with a blue felt-tip.

Wonder how many fellow Twtdrs have eaten Goats head soup?

I did draw a line at eating the actual goat brain, but did most of the soup whilst not thinking too much about what the floating bits actually were.
