Feargal Sharkey (yes, that one) is a good follow if anyone cares about the state of our rivers and coasts - @Feargal_Sharkey

We need some serious investment in infrastructure that won't happen through the current model.

There's a completely different model up here in Scotland.

Nationalised water supply. No profit motive for the shoddy "can't be bothered to process sewage, might as well discharge it into the rivers" approach.

You couldn't make it up. This is peak bonkers, and the Mail must be stupid to even print it.

On the other hand, perhaps in the summer we could do discharges overnight.

'This would have been stopped by the nit picking EU'

Perhaps he condones fly tipping, and will whinge about the nit picking local council wanting to stop it.

I expect he'll next be talking about the government nit picking to control car emissions via the use of the MOT.

Whereas it should not be down to the EU to enforce UK rules. Water companies should factor in this cost when charging.

However, with the lunacy of the righties, there is only the one company providing water in each area. So they have a monopoly. Siphon off as much money as possible, and flog off any 'surplus' assets to boost the dividends

Does it work? We're not for profit hee in Wales, and there do seem to be far fewer incidents being reported here than in England (and it sure as hell rains more, which is the Water Company's normal excuse). We do get the odd red dot on the monitoring sites, but only one or two, whereas England has a string of them all along the coast.

But Nicola Sturgeon .....

Actually, as someone with Scottish parents, I favour independence, which would have the added advantage of my children and I getting an EU passport.

Turns out it was a hoax and there's no such former Tory MP. Guess it just proves the Mail has no journalistic standards.

it also shows how normal folk regard the Mail, that such a story should be thought to be part of the Mails output

That account is a pretty well-known (although not especially funny) parody account. The name should have give the Mail ‘journalists’ a clue.
