I appreciate why you’re saying but I think it’s a bigger achievement to win a series in Pakistan than beat the Aussies at home.

Genuinely remarkable stuff.
The turn-around in 12 months is something else - Duckett talking today about how this England team play with no fear - what this McCullum/ Stokes leadership is doing to this team, will see World Test Cricket fundamentally change, going forwards, I think - akin to what the ODI teams have done to the white-ball game.
Very interested to see how the Aussies look to counter this next summer, and I still think the pure acid test will be India away, and of course, Jimmy and Broad really don't have too much longer left (although Robinson has done pretty well in Broad's absence) - but yeah, difficult to think of a more impressive turn-around, by any sporting team, in such a relatively short period of time. |  | | |

Brooks should take over the role of middle order goat from Root in due course but having them both in the team is very exciting.
Am wondering if it would be worth Ahmed going to the Terry Jenner leg spin school in Australia for a bit as he's still a bit raw and needs to refine his leg spin delivery and add some more variety - but being only 18 he has the world at his feet! |  | | |

I'm certainly not belittling that series win in Pakistan, it was a monumental effort. However, the Aussies (home or away) will really test this new 'Bazball' approach of ours. They won't let us get away if we are 54-4, their bowling attack is the best in the world IMO. What will be interesting is the reaction of everyone if the Aussies are on top and retain the Ashes? Naturally, I don't want that to happen and I hope we stick it to them especially after the embarrassment last winter, but it will be our biggest test to date. | |

They are both very exciting talents. Brooks has taken to international cricket like a duck to water and young Ahmed offers something so different to our bowling attack, he's so unique for us. Yes, he's raw and needs to develop his game, but I hope they allow it to flourish naturally instead of too much outside interference. [Post edited 20 Dec 2022 11:25]
