Long weekend, in the sunshine 21:34 - Apr 4 with 1615 viewsDeano69

Looking to call upon the collective qualities of TWTD!!

I would like to book a long weekend away with my daughter after her GCSE’s, but of Daughter and Dad time. Mid July, before the schools break up.

Plenty of sunshine, ideally from Stansted, Southend or dare I say N@rwich.

B&b or All inclusive. Beaches, pool that sort of thing.

Would love to hear suggestions of little gems you have stayed in if possible.

Thanks in advance.

If just for a long weekend would recommend Malaga. 3 hours flying time, has best of both - beaches and interesting city to visit.

Fuetreventura - will be scorching but there's always a nice breeze which makes the heat more bearable. It's a four hour flight but if you go to Caleta de Fuste it's 15-20 mins from airport. We've had a few long weekends leaving early on a Friday and getting a late Monday flight back. Not 100% on flights after covid etc but you can get about 3.5 days of sun if you plan it right.
Make sure sure though you stay in Caleta itself a few resorts have popped up in middle of nowhere over the years. Morro Jable also worth a look but it's about 90 mins away from airport.

Guernsey

lovely little island, varied things to do, and fantastic food and they all speak English ... well most of them

La Barbarie in the south of the island would be my recommendation, you can wander down to Saints Bay or walk along the cliffs

Take a day trip to Sark for something very out of way

If you are very "lucky" you may spot a certain well known ITFC fan and TWTD poster

I did think of suggesting Fuerteventura but the longer flying time made me think not great for a weekend break. But then it's only an hour more than south of Spain.

Corralejo would have been my suggestion. But then not visited the other resorts on the island. Corralejo has las dunas and great beaches.

Thought the same when I saw Fuerteventura, but Corralejo is a decent journey from the airport, transfer time is critical for a 3 dayer.

But I did love Corralejo.

I think that was implied in the description.

Same recommendation here. I’ll be there in 10 days’ time for some well-deserved R&R.

My wife was never convinced before we tried going for just a couple days, we've had lots of short breaks there since and touch wood it's always worked quite well. I'd rather have longer flight time than transfer time both sides of the flight which is easy to forget about.

Correlejo is a good call esp if you like your watersports or fancy a day in Lanzarote but to be honest there, Caleta and Jandia/Morro Jable are all pretty decent.

Thanks everyone for excellent suggestions. 16 year old was very keen on Ibiza..... She hasn't quite worked out the geography and we are the quiet side of the island. Are my days of Trance Raves over? We'll see.....

All suggestion duly noted, I have no doubt I will be looking again soon to go somewhere with Mrs Deano. Thanks all

Mallorca has it all( avoid Magaluf) whether you want a 2 or 5 star holiday. Palma is a lovely city, mountains, stunning beaches. Sea will be much warmer than the Canary Islands just over 2 hour flight, cant go wrong

So you have ignored all the suggestions given and picked Ibiza?

Humph. Dont bother asking my travel advice again!

Dubrovnik in Croatia is wonderful and easy to get to from Luton with easyjet.

Highly recommended. But may be a little too hot for some in July.

For a few days, I would echoe Mallorca. Quality resorts & hotels, lovely beaches, excellent transportation, lots of flights. Soller is beautiful, Pollenca, Alcudia, Can Picafort, Cala Bona to Sa Coma. Cala d'Or. Palma is a nice day, Valdemossa, the monasteries at Lluc & Randa. You can be energetic or lazy. Stay away from Magaluf, although they seem like they are trying to clean it up.

Such is the fickle nature of a female teenager!!

My first choice was to take her volunteering in Ghana where Simon Milton dies that terrific stuff, but didn’t have any extra holiday to spare.

Will definitely look at the suggestions for future away days though.
