Scott Loach saved a penalty before half-time and Edwards then ran forward and slammed one in right at the end. A fifth straight clean sheet and an eighth in ten league games, according to the BBC report, plus an unbeaten run of five. I think this result was an enormous boost towards confirming our Championship status that year? The amount of goals we conceded after New Year in that 2012/13 season can’t have been very high.
Mick McCarthy: “We burgled it. I thought I heard the sirens and I said 'shut the doors, the police are coming!'”
I was in my teens and this was the first away game I had ever been to. My dad and I got tickets through a family friend and got to have the full three-course meal beforehand and then watch the match from the posh seats in the main stand. I think we had to sit on our hands when we scored.

That was a fantastic end to a match. Scenes, as Rommy would say.
Think the Derby players had settled for the draw, switched off a bit, when Edwards obviously said to himself "Right, I'm going to do something about this!" Nouble made a run out to his right, drawing a defender and leaving the hole for Carlos to run into. Bang. Goal.
One of the Derby journalists mentioned Mick's 'robbery' presser on Saturday! We always win at Pride Park.

Derby had a goal disallowed and Connor Sammon missed a really good chance (yeah, I know) so we were even more jammy than you suggest.
It was fecking great coming out of the ground that day, not bad for a late decision to go.
I swear this is true. On 90 minutes the fella next to me said "Edwards will score the winner". I told him I'd kiss him if he did. When it went in, I looked at him and he shook his head and said "no way". Think it virtually guaranteed us staying up. What a job Mick did in those early seasons.

Wednesday we that day, everyone else at the bottom list; it was a big win. We lost to Hull the following Saturday but then beat Palace 3-0 on the Tuesday - that was the day we were fine IMO.

“We burgled it. I thought I heard the sirens and I said 'shut the doors, the police are coming!' Did we deserve the three points? Not on that performance because they were better than us. We saved a penalty and had to stick at it because we've not played particularly well, but it was a bit of quality at the end - it was a great strike.“

“In terms of the all-round performance, there were so many things to enjoy. I think the first 20 minutes, we really took the initiative in the game. We spoke about it before the game, that we feel like we’ve taken some steps as a team but probably to go and beat Derby with how important the game was going to be for them and with the crowd, it would probably have to have been our best, our biggest result yet. Of course, every game is three points but in terms of the challenge. Without a really good performance, we weren’t going to get the result and I think there were really good things about the performance.”
