Our approach for Barnsley and beyond 11:49 - Apr 23 with 1565 views | Darth_Koont | The simplest approach surely is to focus on overtaking Plymouth and winning the league, right? If we do that to the best of our ability we can largely forget about the Owls. A point at Barnsley may help at the end of the season but to catch Plymouth – and keep promotion in our hands – we probably still need to win. On a side note, it’s amazing that 34 points out of 36 for us, at the same time as Sheffield Wednesday’s major wobble, still leaves the automatic race as open as it is. You’d have to say the momentum is heavily with us but Tuesday’s games could alter the picture dramatically.

Our approach for Barnsley and beyond on 12:09 - Apr 23 with 1473 views | itfcjoe | I think you just try and win every game, which is what we do anyway - reality is it's all about staying ahead of SW opposed to catching Plymouth though. Incredible though that SW have 90 points with 2 games left and most models giving them <10% chance of automatics! Am hoping that Barnsley needing to beat us gives us an advantage because pressure is more on them in front of their home crowd and we can try and pick them off

Plymouth are somewhat irrelevant now. (Although I do think Barton’s inconsistent Rovers might get something there on Tuesday). As you say, all about being better than Weds over a 2-game mini season. A win for us on Tuesday would be huge massive big, will basically seal it. It would be nice to win the league but genuinely not that bothered about it. Just get automatic promotion.

Our approach for Barnsley and beyond on 12:32 - Apr 23 with 1396 views | tractordownsouth | Getting three points yesterday is massive because it means we can go for the win and even if we end up taking risks, leaving gaps and losing the game we're still in the driving seat. Had we drawn yesterday, we'd have been caught between knowing a point was okay but that a defeat would have been a disaster. Barnsley would have gone into the match knowing a win would've put them firmly back in the race.

Our approach for Barnsley and beyond on 12:44 - Apr 23 with 1336 views | Herbivore | Much as it's a cliche, one game at a time has to be the approach and it's worked for us well in recent months. Just focus on performing in the next game, aim for three points, and then on to the next game. If we worry too much about what other sides are doing above or below is then it's an unhelpful distraction. Take care of each game and the league table will take care of itself.

I still think it's important that we don't lose it. We go to win but if we are sitting level with 15-20 mins on the clock I don't suspect McKenna to be making adventurous changes to try and win it. A point keeps it in our hands even allowing for a draw in one of our final two. We really don't want to be going to Fleetwood needing to win.

Yeah I'm not suggesting we go gung-ho but there won't be the same nervousness, knowing that even the worst case scenario isn't complete disaster.

I don’t think winning the title is important per se. Either of the two auto places is fine by me. I suppose my point was that by looking to overhaul Plymouth we’d still have two spots to go for rather than one. And I think a draw on Tuesday is unlikely to help us for that.

Our approach for Barnsley and beyond on 12:57 - Apr 23 with 1257 views | OldFart71 | Looking at the remaining fixtures I believe the ease of the run in as follows :- Easiest = Plymouth, next easiest = Town and hardest Wednesday. Obviously Tuesdays game against Barnsley is not a walk in the park. A win would be great and a draw o.k. wednesday have Shrewsbury away and a home game against Derby, who may still be in a fight with Peterborough for a playoff place. But as KM says" One game at a time" The best scenario for Town would obviously be a win at Barnsley and seal promotion at home to Exeter. That would be pretty marvellous. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Our approach for Barnsley and beyond on 13:15 - Apr 23 with 1155 views | Wakh | I would say the impotous is there to win giving an opportunity to win promotion in front of a home crowd. Overtaking Plymouth is irrelevant. If it happens it happens.

It's all a moot debate innit? And fine, it's a message board :) Point is, excuse the pun, there is zero chance McK will be playing for a draw against Barnsley.
