Summarised quite well overnight which pointed out that if starc had tried to retain the catch conventionally (ie. With fingers under the ball) there was a far greater chance that his elbow would have hit the ground first and jarred the ball out of his hand. You can’t therefore try to get an advantage by putting the ball on the ground to break your fall and stop that happening.
