In the industry I work in there is a massive problem with getting reliable staff to fill low paid but important roles - typically relying on agency staff who often just don't turn up - so I can see first hand that there is a real issue here. There is a separate argument about the ethics of importing low paid labour to to the jobs our own population doesn't fancy doing, but there is no point pretending that our economy hasn't been running on that model for years.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.
Interestingly, I remember listening to a Radio 4 programme about five years ago about the accession of eastern European countries in 2004, and the UK decision to accelerate freedom of movement for Poles and those from the other countries.
The programme involved a couple of Labour ministers (I think one was David Blunkett), and in it both mentioned that part of the reason for accelerating freedom of movement was to drive down wages, and so give the UK a competitive advantage.
The programme was after Brexit, but perhaps surprisingly the rather explosive revelation didn't seem to get much publicity.

They're all neo Conservatives now! Rebranding it neo Liberalism was a master stroke.

These people had absolutely no idea what Brexit meant. None whatsoever. It’s as simple as that.
Trust me, that’s all there is to it.
err, actually they did. It meant votes, election and subsequently all the 'perks' that went with the job as an MP.
So what if a few (a considerable few) lies were told compared to the money to be made. Whatever extraordinary claim they made, they could tell their not too bright believers that they were the new messiah, and those pointing out the all too obvious flaws were the false prophets. And like holding up a cross to Dracula all those slow witted folk had to do to ward off those naughty remainers was to sit in the corner, hands over their ears and rock to and fro bleating
"project fear.... baa baa"
They just had to believe. Have blind faith in..........................habitual liars.
The frightening part is that none of what has happened was not known before the referendim.. All the fish in British waters should be British. No one explained to these nunbskulls that fish such as cod spawned in the Bay of Biscay before heading through the channel. The French could simply snaffle them first.
No country was going to sign a trade deal that left it worse off than before, as is now being grasped.
Loading 4m extra customs forms on exporters per week was always going to cost more.
What is forgotten that low paid workers from the EU can be more flexible. often it is only something done for a few months. Try getting a married man from 'the north' to uproot his family to live in a caravan for a transient job.
And yet there are still the slow witted who will have that brexit has not failed, as it has not been implemented. Rather like the man who states he was not conned by a Nigerian bank scam, as the banks has not said it will not hand over $60m it promised in exchange for his bank details

This nonentity of a soon-to-be-ex-politician actually blamed Remainers in his statement. He claimed that we ended up with Remainers' [view of] Brexit, not the sort that Brexiteers actually wanted.
Honestly, as a peaceful, generally proud-to-be-'Woke', Christian lefty, I would happily risk a criminal conviction if it meant I had kneed this idiot, hard, in the groin. Having first told him why I was doing it.

That approach worked for a while when they had their talisman’Boris’. Now the circus around him has gone, it just leaves them looking pathetic.

Harry, trust me, they really hadn’t any idea what it was, what it meant, what the impact might be, none of it.
They really didn’t. That they might have seen the benefits to themselves you describe in your first paragraph doesn’t detract from the above.

err yes.
The point was these types had not the slightest interest in finding out what would be the consequences. That was abundantly clear. Indifference, rather than ignorance.
It was not a question of them not knowing, it was them not caring, as they knew whatever harm befell the country, certain businesses and millions of individuals it would not really harm them.
The money to be made by peddling lies far outweighed any personal loss.
