Were we just caught a bit cold early doors for their goals? Ball cut it out I think and it went straight back to them with the scorer now on his own - wasn't sure if that showed a bit of naivety or just hard luck.

Baggott looked to lose his man completely for the second. Not a major criticism as something he will learn from, but I do wonder set pieces are the hardest part of replicating everyhting throughout the squad.

Has McKenna improved Omari or has he just shown faith in him? Stands out a mile on those clips and is exciting to watch. Would love to think he could be here beyond this season but....

Harness just pops up in the right place and plays the simple ball so well. Almost like he creates those goals by not overthinking or trying anything fancy that Wolves might pre-empt.

That black GK kit is so much better than the green one too.

Wolves played at an incredible tempo, with the highest press I've ever seen, in the first 10 minutes. Obviously not something they could sustain, but it gave us a lot of problems!

As Kieran highlighted, Wolves' delivery from set pieces was of very high quality, better than ours or what we've been used to. Agree their press was pretty intense to start off, but I thought we were also unlucky with the ball falling to a Wolves player when Ball tackled/cleared.

Interesting that Wolves really lost all momentum and desire once we started applying pressure, as Harness said, their players didn't want to be there.

Ball was a bit unlucky his interception ended up where it did but think we were caught out a little bit by the speed and tempo of that level of opposition, closed down expertly and everything one or two touch under pressure meant you did fear the worst a bit to begin with.

McKenna referenced set pieces specifically being something you can be vulnerable from when you make so many changes, presumably as they require so much drilling and repetition (in game) to get spot on which those on the fringes don't benefit from so much. They also looked a very big team both in terms of pure height and physical stature and put in some really high quality deliveries above what we're used to.

Omari has bags of talent and it was interesting that McKenna expanded a bit the other night on Omari's 'he showed me areas I could improve' comment when he first joined, taking about how good he could be off the ball etc. Player clearly prepared to work hard for the manager and manager is repaying him for it. Lots made of the whole squad but think there's fairly clearly a first choice XI when all's well, but Omari is probably the closest to disrupting that, certainly in the attacking part of the pitch.

You know what you're going to get with Harness. Technically don't think he's particularly close to the other players in his position but runs hard and doesn't overcomplicate things. For a league game, looking at the line-up and bench we've used so far, you'd imagine it's one of him or Jackson on there when both available.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Wasn’t at last nights game so can’t really comment on Harness’ general play, but what I’ve seen of Harness is as you say - he does the simple things well. He also has good awareness of where he and others are on the pitch and has a habit of playing into or being in places the opposition don’t like. We’ve had a lot worse playing for us than Harness.

Hutchinson? I think it’s a bit of everything. Settling into a new environment. McKenna and his team’s support and coaching, match fitness and finally enjoying himself. He looks much happier now than he did when I first saw him walking out with the subs against Stoke. At this rate of progress he’s going to be virtually unplayable at this level by the season’s end.that was a heck of a goal he scored last night.

After 15 minutes it looked like we were going receive a drubbing. It looked like a Premier League squad against a Championship second string that were not used to playing together. Defensively especially we looked a shambles. We then came into the game and once we had pulled one back it looked like there was only one team in it. We looked like the team full of first teamers and they gradually lost a grip on the midfield. By the time the subs were being made, they seemed to weaken a team that was already second-best and we strengthened.

Taylor looked weak for the first 15 minutes then gradually took a grip on the game and scored a great winner.
Baggott did some great things intermingled with some rather poor ones. He looks a top player in the making and experience in matches like this will help.
Likewise Edmundson looked rusty at times but showed some good skill when needed.
I need to see it again but not sure what happened with Hladky for their second. Looked a decent keeper but I would be amazed if Walton isn't back on Saturday and that would be why he was playing.
Hutchinson is Chelsea's best player and still can't break into our first team. Does he have a recall clause in January? If so, we had better hope some of the Chelsea squad improve before then so he stays with us.
Harness quietly went about creating 3 goals without standing out.
Hirst added strength to the attack once on and Luongo likewise to midfield.
Hee-Chan for Wolves created problems with his movement and running with the ball. He also threw himself over and looked like he had been snapped in half every time anyone came near him and the ref bought it every time.

Overall a very good performance that shows why we should have nothing to fear from getting promoted this season. It won't take a lot for us to be able to compete with the average Premier League teams if we do.

re: set pieces.

I think that extends to off the ball stuff more generally, we certainly weren't as sharp on that early on as we were later in the match yesterday or in general. A lot of players got better after a poor start last night.

I did think that a confident Wolves team would have scored from corner second half, there were a couple we were second to the ball but got a bit lucky (the header that deflected through to Hladky in particular but Doherty had one too).

Unlucky in some regards for the first but we were somewhat out of position defensively before, hence Ball had to move across to cut out the pass - where the ball was unlucky but we were def not great positionally by that point.

The second is poor, not just from Baggot but if you look at the marking - quite a few loose their man.

As long as we learn from them, all good. Baggot was excellent overall and still learning. Fridge also ended up being much more his old self as well in the end.

But they were not great goals to concede.

Yep agree with all that, the first 20 minutes they ran rings around us, their touch, pace and movement made me think this could be a real hammering, but then we stepped up and steadied the ship and started passing through them and creating and the Hutch goal lifted the place and from thereon is was a proper game and very little in it..

I do feel with Taylor he's a midfielder at present who is still better when being direct at goal.

For those who know the careers of luongo and morsy.. have either had similar attributes in their earlier years and then learned the DM role overtime?

I know it's not a specific dm role.. just feel its the best way to describe dropping deep and being that midfielder facing your own goal.

a niche perspective

Yes, was looking a bit too easy for Wolves to knock it about to begin with but did well to grow into the game. Hutchinson drawing Traore into a yellow-worthy foul was a small but important moment, a) as it gave a bit of belief that we could break through them but also b) meant he couldn't risk snapping in so strongly which nullified him slightly.

Agree think we rode our luck a bit, a couple of free headers we were fortunate didn't end up in the back of the net. If they'd have been properly up for it you'd imagine they'd have really pushed and stuck the ball on top of us which we'd have struggled with but as has been pointed out they seemed to lose a lot of heart once we got back into the game.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.
