Lots of praise for us on the Preston forum 12:32 - Oct 8 with 3551 views | Hipsterectomy | “Wasn’t so much a gulf in class as a chasm. Another team that have come up from League One and immediately leapfrogged us. Would love to watch them every week, exciting, one touch football with bang average footballers. McKenna is so far ahead of Lowe it’s hilarious.” “Other than Bielsa’s Leeds I think Ipswich are the best coached team I’ve seen at this level. To play attacking football of that quality with players like Chaplin, Burns, Hirst, Morsy and Luongo who have all had mixed careers at Championship level is seriously impressive and it’s obvious McKenna is going on to big things.” “We got fckin tonked yesterday, absolutely battered imo by a class outfit. It wasn't a poor set up here, or a bad pass there it was an absolute lesson from a very good team.” Let’s keep the humility but I still haven’t got used to comments such as these about us

Lots of praise for us on the Preston forum on 12:57 - Oct 8 with 3400 views | DarkBrandon | The point about some of our players not excelling in the Championship is an interesting one. Every time I’ve seen the players he lists I’ve been very impressed, but you realise how much of that is down to the manager and coaches. Must make it so much easier to attract and retain talent.

That was my one reservation coming into this season. Those players have all been excellent for us, but they hadn't really excelled in this division, at least not recently, and so I wondered how they would perform this season. Fair to say that reservation has well and truly been answered.

Lots of praise for us on the Preston forum on 13:37 - Oct 8 with 3171 views | ArnieM | Some nice comments in there from PNE fans, and much appreciated. But I’m not sure if call our players “ bang average”. They have to have those skill sets in their repertoire and an aptitude to learn more from the coaches. These players didn’t just end up at this club because there was nowhere else go, they were specifically hand picked by ITFC for the very attributes they possess . What makes ITFC so good now is we don’t just accumulate players for the sake of if. Every player that comes to this club is planned. THATS why we are now 2nd in the division.

But the point they are making is that to outsiders they looked like bang-average Championship players. (Morsy was surplus to requirements at Middlesborough, for example.) People seem to be getting affronted by a compliment.
Lots of praise for us on the Preston forum on 14:31 - Oct 8 with 2911 views | SuperKieranMcKenna | A lot of rival fans dismissed us as either a promotion bounce or fluking it. Nice to see people are now starting to take us seriously. The Hull thrashing fet like a statement win to me against a very decent side. I think our players need more credit from rival fans though. A lot of assumptions about them being L1 players that are supremely well coached, when in reality we recruited for the Championship. They’ve not all hit their ceiling yet so let’s see how far they can go. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Lots of praise for us on the Preston forum on 14:33 - Oct 8 with 2888 views | ghostofescobar | And that’s with us playing probably what was one of our poorest halves of the season (by our standards). I also found it really odd to see their goalkeeper taking a goal kick and just punting it long. Seemed so old fashioned!!

Lots of praise for us on the Preston forum on 14:40 - Oct 8 with 2842 views | Trequartista | I think its a fair analysis from the Preston fan. On day 1 of this season, on paper, considering all the players had dropped to league one to join us, we had bang average championship players, if that. I think its implicit in the praise of McKenna and our football that the Preston fan also thinks the players have significantly improved.

"For what it’s worth, Ipswich are about 20 times better than Leicester."
"I can’t believe how good they are."
"Ipswich are a team who actually have attacking patterns of play."
"They could have scored three more in the five minutes of added time .. they are absolutely caning us"

Lots of praise for us on the Preston forum on 15:51 - Oct 8 with 2480 views | strikalite | I actually thought Preston looked good on the ball, especially after the break, at 3-2 I think we'd all agree that you could sense the relief when Jackson then scored..

100% these are rival fans who probably haven't thought of Ipswich in years, let alone follow our fortunes. A quick wikipedia shows Chaplin, Morsy, Ladapo: their clubs were happy to move them on to a league below Burns was a flair player in a Fleetwood team who we wouldn't have been able to name if he hadn't torn us apart against us Other players in our team have a handful of Champ appearances from about 10 years ago. Not sure why it's got people's backs up as a passing comment

Thing is 3 of the players mentioned came to us in pre McKenna days. Whilst we had Ashton and Gamechanger by then, the player recruitment was still old school, probably just Ashton asking Cook who he wants. Sure Cook/O'Leary were planning to have a modern recruitment structure along with the modern manager and coaching set up along with the rest of changes but at the time Connor Wes and Sam joined we were still in the post Evans stopgap management period. We can see how much those three have improved under McKenna and everything else that has changed.
