Just watched the first part of that. Steve Coogan plays him very well. Don't know if I can watch the rest though, it's pretty harrowing stuff. Certainly doesn't pull any punches in portraying him as a monster.

I watched all four episodes one after the other. You're right, it's a tough watch and what you see is a mere fraction of the whole story. He basically had everyone in his pocket and his victims and those who knew he was a wrong 'un were utterly helpless.

Credit to Coogan, to play that monster and do it so convincingly is no mean feat! It is a tough watch the arrogance of the man knowing he could just get away with his atrocious actions, such a warped individual. When you look back, all the signs were there.

I watched it all and wished I hadn't.

Not sure why it needed to be made to be honest.

There’s a dramatisation of the Soham murders that has just gone onto Netflix which is equally unnecessary and slightly sick in my humble opinion.

Have managed to watch two so far.

My wife managed about 15 minutes of ep.1. Though she thought that Coogan carried off the Savile persona well.off

Will watch when wife out, just to finish series, but it is a tough watch. I wonder if any of his "innocent" enablers are watching and feel remorse for their actions?

The thing that surprises me the most is that its a drama on the BBC. After decades of turning a blind eye to Savile's crimes on their watch they now want to bring it up again.

I can never understand why anyone didn't think he was a complete weirdo.

I mean, it was as plain as day, he even mentioned some of his exploits in a book he wrote in the 70's or early 80's and even went on to say that he had the police in the palm of his hand.

And yet he was commissioned for 'Jim'll Fix It', invited to Number Ten by Thatcher, had access to Royalty, even made it into the 'Is This The Road To Amarillo ?' video with Peter Kay. I haven't watched 'The REckoning' yet but, as it available on iPlayer for over a year, no doubt I will.

To answer your earlier question about why it was made, I think the BBC do have responsibility (as they had some culpability) to broadcast accounts of how manipulative individuals operate - because we can all be duped by them no matter how smart and protected by others we think we are. Every clue that gets planted in our minds can help to alert us to their operations, and to prevent collusion on our part.
