Ironically, nazi Germany was also very keen on universities toeing the party line and getting into the kind of hollow patriotism that deputy PM Tea Martin is bang into. And they certainly weren't above making sh1t up for for people to be angry about in order to provide justifications for their actions, either.

Tea Martin wasn't being sarky tho. You appear to be confusing veiled threats for not being patriotic enough with sarcasm. [Post edited 11 Dec 2023 16:27]

No. He's literally made something up to be upset about for a feeble pretext of attacking free speech in universities.

Fascism has varied a lot from national context to national context but if you look at the defining characteristics of fascism, you can find evidence in the current government's behaviour for many of them. Lawrence Britt identified 14 traits of fascism and we hit probably 10 or 11 of them. Umberto Eco also identified 14 traits of fascism and we hit 11 or 12 of those. I know you're not worried about any of this and see it as the usual rough and tumble of UK party politics but those of us with our eyes and ears open see the lurch ever rightwards of the current government as being really quite troubling.

LOL Where can one buy a copy of The Woke Agenda? by lowhouseblue 9 Dec 2023 10:19you can disagree with bobbins. you can explain why bobbins is wrong. you can show that the consequences of bobbins are bad. that's civilised debate and i agree that it's right to challenge bobbins in public spaces. you can say that you find bobbins unpleasant. but given that bobbins is an entirely subjective concept, as is far right and not that far right, talking bobbins doesn't make someone a bad person. bobbins / not bobbins is rightly in the eye of the beholder. so calling someone a bobbinist is just name calling.

well it's a debate we've had before and it makes me worry you've lost touch with reality. the uk is not 12/14th of the way to fascism and, as you know, i find it pretty insulting to those who lived and died under real fascism for anyone to make that claim. really, check your privileges as a middle class person living in a functioning democracy under the rule of law.

i'm disagreeing with bobbins and challenging bobbins. but we've had the debate before and i just can't be bothered. i'm really pretty confident we're not living in anything near a fascist regime - but if you get a thrill by believing it then fill your boots. [Post edited 11 Dec 2023 19:20]
