I sometimes am a bit harsh on Woolf.... but that's mostly because I feel like defending Burgess, not because Woolf is playing badly. I just feel Woolf isn't as good as some make out. I have no problem Woolf being in the team as I feel he deserves to be.... but Burgess, for me, is just a better defender and I prefer him to Woolf. If Tuanzebe comes in... I prefer it to be the natural right-left combo of Tuanzebe and Burgess. Let's not start looking for scapegoats as Woolf has done us proud. Certainly not try to scapegoat anybody. I like Woolfy and he has stepped up to Championship well. Just feel against the pace of the Leeds frontline, Tuanzebe might be better. | |

The reason why Woolfenden wasn't closer to Rowe for the first goal? Because he was moving towards Idah in the middle of the box, who Burgess had stepped away from. As the cross came in Burgess and Davis were marking no one, and Woolfenden had Idah and Rowe with no support from Clarke, who was out of position (0:46 in the Sky highlights). Could argue there was a lack of organisation.
At the time, I thought Woolfenden should have closed down quicker. Watching back, I'd say he was the least to blame of the back four. And I agree, for the most part Burgess has been superb this season. | |

Axel is by far the better defender and I think McKenna has saved him and Williams for the tougher games v Leeds and Leicester and allowed the “ one if our own” players have their derby game.
Axel will become the first choice Rt CB, that’s what’s he’s been brought in for. He’s just being nursed through he’s graduated return to football. |  |

Interestingly Davis is the cover that makes the initial challenge on Rowe as he stoops for the first cross, finding himself in RCB position. He vacates that space to trot back into position and leaves Woolfenden 2 vs 1 for the cross with Clarke still up the pitch.
Not a criticism, but I did wonder whether he could've held his position a little longer there. It might have opened us up to a different threat had the early cross not come in, but seemed obvious on telly he was leaving a big hole behind him. [Post edited 16 Dec 2023 16:22]

Agreed, Woolfenden was left horribly exposed. He made the right decision in moving to try and mark Idah as he was more central, but really Burgess should have picked him up, which would have allowed Woolfenden to move out to Rowe.
Saying that, Rowe being on the floor probably didn't help the decision making; he could have been overlooked at that point.
A lack of organisation and I think that is something which can be worked on. | |
