Clive is a very clever writer and is generally spot on about football. He predicted play-offs for us last season.

This bit was interesting re the Saints win.

“The final win in that sequence, at home to Southampton, was fairly typical – two late goals in a comeback 3-2 success. Russell Martin said his team had scored the more aesthetically pleasing goals, and if Ipswich wanted to win like that it was up to them. Yes. Yes it was.”

Not a surprise that Martin would be salty but what did he mean by “winning like that”. If Martin was trying to paint it as artisans vs agricultural he can get in the fking sea.

Their defenders thought the same. “If Sarmiento wishes to score such a goal after slipping over, let him”.

Martin’s an insufferable know-it-all and can’t bear to think that his team have been beaten fair and square.

I don't recall him saying that, but he did say Southampton were the better side and deserved to win. To be fair to him , they were very good in the first half , but unfortunately for him a game now lasts 97 or so minutes.

He is however a knob of the highest order.

I don’t recall it either and tbf they looked really good in the first half. I may have to trawl back to see if I can find his quote. (Note to self: get a life)

They ran rings round us in the first half and only their arrogance prevented them from scoring more. As so often KM gambled by being brave and descending the game into chaos, and as so often it worked.

This is one of the things I do like about KM after games. Even in those we lose or draw i don't think I've ever heard him say we lost to rubbish goals or along those lines. He may say we could have done better etc but doesn't call opponent goals rubbish.

a niche perspective

I can guarantee McKennaball has had way more neutral plaudits than anything Southampton have churned out. Most of their football involves tapping it around at the back. There’s not a team in the league that picked up the ball and attacked, attacked, attacked like us. Hence we were top scorers in the league, with loads of neutrals loving our football. Even champions Leicester were jealous of our desire to attack until the final whistle.

In summary, Martin is a know-knothing, one trick pony, who talks utter sh1teeee.

I think we all underestimated ourselves. Saw plenty of people saying top 10 would be absolutely fine but, and some of it is hindsight, that did us a disservice.

Once we got into our stride and were full strength in League One we were far too good for it. Our style was Premier League already and apart from the obvious teams the Championship wasn't looking all that.

He certainly has.

I predicted 'top half and above Norwich', so I'm taking that a 100% accurate predicting.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Yeah I'd agree Martin is the world's most limited know-it-all in regards to what he actuality knows.
