Has it actually been confirmed that he's leaving? Perhaps i've missed the confirmation or us this just based on nixon reporting it in the sun so it must be true?

Granted it doesn't look good that he hasn't agreed a new contract extension but i've not seen any reports confirming he was leaving and he indicated there were a few minor issues to sort out so he may sign when he's back from his holiday

Absolutely. Many are getting ahead of themselves on lots of these rumours - nature abhors a vacuum and all that. For example I've seen some Chelsea fans lamenting the decision to allow Hutchinson to leave for Ipswich on a permanent basis. I'd love it if that decision has been made, but it's all hearsay at this stage.

As regards Hladky, we are pretty sure that he is or has been in contract talks with the club. That could mean anything:

1) Kieran has told him he'll be his number one this season and:
(a) Hladky is happy with that, it's just a question of thrashing out the details
(b) the club has offered him a contract which looks OK, but he still wants to see what other options there are
(c) the club has offered him a contract which he is not happy with and so wants to explore what other options there are.

2) Kieran has told him he'll compete with Walton or a new keeper, Hladky is:
(a) happy with that - just a matter of thrashing out details
(b) not sure whether to accept or not, so is mulling / putting feelers out for other clubs
(c) unhappy with that so is putting feelers out in an attempt to move

3) Kieran has told him he'll be second choice to a new keeper this season and has offered a contract that is commensurate with that. Hladky is:
(a) happy with that - just a matter of thrashing out details
(b) not sure whether to accept or not, so is mulling / putting feelers out for other clubs
(c) unhappy with that so is putting feelers out in an attempt to move

4) Kieran has told him he'll be surplus to requirements and will be moved on, and the contract talks are a lie/smokescreen/crossed wires.

We really don't know. There may be some ITK who might be able to dismiss several of the above scenarios, but it seems to me that the above are the logical possibilities.

It is worth remembering that we had much speculation with Kieran before he just mooched along and signed a new contract with no drama and no ostensible day to day change as far as fans are concerned.

If Hladky is off, that means Kieran has an upgrade, in my view. If Hladky thinks he's likely to be number 1 next season, then he'd be mad to go elsewhere, even if we're not the highest bidders on wages. He works well in our system, and that system showcases his skills as well as any system could. (A) Our attacking inclinations mean that he'll get a chance to show off his shot-stopping, (B) our playing out from the back showcases his ball-at-feet skills, and (C) the occasions when B goes wrong will lead straight back to A!

Or he’s on a well deserved holiday and hasn’t signed yet

Yeah, absolutely, very possible. I kind of had that in my "thrashing out the details" categories (1a, 2a, 3a) - I meant he's gonna sign but just a question of getting everyone's ducks in a row in terms of the details of the contract and the details of how and when they get in a room and sign.

He’s not getting any younger, very unlikely to be first choice, his stock has never been higher, I would imagine it’s the best opportunity of a big contract he’s ever had in his whole career

Money / agents / greed? He'd be daft to leave, unless KM has other plans for his keeper. And I'm sure any delays to him signing the contract will be worked through.

I understand the age and pecking order thoughts but based on that logic, I can't see where he he would be more likely to be first choice with a "big" contract on offer.

Just can't see him being in demand elsewhere where the potential to earn more or have a higher profile will be on offer.

I think he has to make a choice about being first choice or playing at a high level or having a big contract - don't see where that venn diagram disects for him currently . . .

You would think it would be very difficult for anyone else who may be interested in him to be able to match Premier league wages.

I don't know how much Celtic are paying on wages but I presume they would be the only team to get anywhere close.
