England v Scotland about 10 years ago at Wembley, I took my 8 year old nephew to his first England game. On the tube it's fair to say quite a few Scots had had one too many.

Nephew turns to me and asks (a bit too loudly)

"Uncle Lagos, are all Scotsmen drunkards?"

I genuinely have no issues with them, get absolutely slaughtered but without the nasty side you often see with England fans. But yeah, their team are crap.

Poll: This new lockdown poll - what you reckon?

The strange thing about Scotland is that there are still remnants of the Calvinist teetotal/no joy tendency, but clearly they don't follow the Scottish national team.

My mother probably fell into that category, as did one of my ancestors who was a member of the Wee Wee Frees, a breakaway from the Wee Frees who broke away from the Church of Scotland because it wasn't God-fearing enough.

But these days the Calvinist churches have a rapidly diminishing influence, with the exception of Western Isles.

I think this comparison is really harsh on Scotland. They’re not THAT sh1t.

It would be amusing to find that, once the group stages are complete, that a draw would've been enough to go through after all.

Still celebrating a single goal against a big team decades ago.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

They certainly seem to share the same aversion to getting remotely close to anything made of precious metals.

I had Nodge more down as the Transylvania of the domestic leagues; a very backward place where things made of silver are viewed as dangerous and to be avoided at all costs, a closed society of large families and, due to their lack of impact on the rest of the world, no-one can be absolutely sure that they really exist apart from as some kind of a dark joke.

One could argue that Ipswich are the equivalent of England ?

Constantly harking back to long distant success, unpleasant supporters very quick to turn on ‘their’ team, bouyed by recent success and a media darling manager soon to depart.

Please try harder, many thanks.
