As I contributed to the motor thread, I am afraid the same on home insurance. Costs of claims have risen, such as labour and materials etc.

best to shop around as usual. Try the voluntary excess game to see if increasing it brings relative savings and if so buy excess protect insurance for the full amount of your total excess.

However with building and contents insurance be very careful what cover you have and what you need. Do you have cover for contents outside of the home?

Do you have items that need specifing, such as jewellery, bikes etc that may be over the single article limit under the policy.

It's a bit more complicated than motor insurance.

Feels like all of my annual renewals are going up by about 20%. I asked why of 1 last week and got a 1 word answer of 'inflation'. Asked them where they were based (Liverpool) and then for a better explanation given inflation is currently at 2% and even at its highest a few months ago was <9%. Needless to say, no proper explanation. Wasn't the individual in questions fault but as a business if you're going to put a 20% increase through to a customer despite a year of no more claims (and having never claimed in their life) you should probably make sure your staff are equipped with the justification. Feels a bit opportunistic.

You can always try and spark discontent from within by asking the poor customer service agent whether their wages have also been increased by (insert premium increase percentage here).

I feel sorry for these poor folks being put on the front line of trying to justify these hikes whilst, most likely, not having had any significant sort of wage increase in years.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

I am no economist but I think 2 years of 10% inflation might have something to do with it.

It is opportunistic exactly as the rise in fuel and food prices was.

There are a lot of companies worldwide scraping back their losses post Covid and Ukraine is a convenient side-show.

Quite. I didn't feel that to be appropriate, but I think we all know the answer to that one. With remote working rents might be a saving, and costs like business rates, salaries I dare say are nowhere near increasing to that extent. Other operational expenses might in some cases, utilities for example, but as a % of these firms total cost base they're probably fairly small. And while motor and home claims might be getting more expensive which I can see some logic for (e.g. the average home insurance claim was 11% more expensive last year apparently), given only 5% of people claim annually it should have a pretty negligible impact, and certainly not 20%+ to everyone's bill. Much more in some cases.

Thanks. By thei own admission, buildings costs have only inflated by (about) 4.5% & contents by 2.5%, so no idea how they got to 25%! As some have said, looks like a p-take.

Accidental damage applies to outside homee, last claim was for bust glasses, 2018. No individual items.

At least this time I have a month to shop about! - ta for the mem jog on vol excesses 👍

Definitely have a look around. Mine came through a month or so back up almost 30%. Had a look around and got it sorted for only a few pounds more than last year.
