I hadn't seen until just now that she was standing for Tory leader. Being at the front of the old guard who the electorate turned on surely she doesn't stand a chance. She's an outside bet yes?

You have to understand that most of these leadership candidates are merely standing to gracefully stand down and back the winning horse. Thus getting a good job in the shadow cabinet which in five years time could be the cabinet.

Doesn't stand a chance.

Badenoch wins it.

Then again, I thought Braverman would win it and she's now 80/1

I think she will get to the final two who go to the membership because I don't think Braverman, Badenoch and Jenrick (from the right of the party) have as wide support as her amongst the remaining MPs. And don't forget there will be tactical voting to ensure MPs don't have a candidate foisted on them they don't want or like.

She's apparently quite well liked within the Parliamentary party, and has spent an awful lot of time doing the rounds at numerous constituency assoc, iations.

The candidate from the left is more difficult to judge but I think is probably either Tugendhat or Cleverly.

Badenough is truly awful and I suspect she’s loathed by most in the parliamentary party - though somehow she has airbrushed her arrogance and incompetence enough to appeal to the blue rinse brigade.

If the tories have any sense they’ll go for a bland bloke who says the right things and purges a few of the extremist loons within….they don’t have to look to far to see how successful that could be …that leaves field of one with Mr Nice but Dim Tugenough.

Let's face it, they're ALL awful.
And irrelevant.

Isn’t it largely the blue rinse brigade, pompous male version, who picks the leader. They haven’t exactly got the best track record of choosing their party leader, so god knows which awful candidate they’ll pick this time.

“Our failures on migration, taxes and trans ideology cost us the election”.
So equally deluded in power as in defeat then. She hasn’t got a clue what ‘normal’ people are going through. Most couldn’t give a sh*t about the Tory culture wars. Cost of living, health and the economy (or in other words the impacts people are feeling because of Tory failures) were the 3 top issues of concern in the election. Even the rancid right wing press couldn’t change the dial on that.

I hope the Tories pick someone with connections from the last failed government, because apart from the hardcore voters, in 5 years time (even though memories are short) voters will remember them and they are tainted by the prior 14 years of Tory failure.

To have any chance the Tories need to pick someone with no connection with the last government to truly show they are moving on, and not more of the same of shi te
